Ultrasound Diagnostics

The Department of Ultrasound of the International Peace Maternity and Child Health Hospital of the China Welfare Institute was established in the late 1970s. After more than 30 years of continuous development, it has now become a specialized discipline integrating medical services (ultrasound diagnosis, treatment, and ultrasound used in some surgical procedures), teaching, and scientific research. The department currently has 22 established physicians and is equipped with 24 ultrasound diagnostic units, including internationally advanced ultrasound medical imaging equipment such as philips iueliet, philips iu22, philips ie33, GE VOLUSON E8, and GE VOLUSON E6. The department consists of several sections, including outpatient ultrasound, inpatient ultrasound, family-planning ultrasound, VIP ultrasound, special-needs ultrasound, prenatal diagnostic ultrasound, and breast ultrasound. The annual number of deliveries in our hospital’s Department of Obstetrics has exceeded 10,000 for many consecutive years. The Department of Ultrasound performs a large number of routine obstetric ultrasound examinations for pregnant women, screening for some fetal malformations, fetal echocardiography, and monitoring of fetal–placental hemodynamics. It has accumulated extensive experience in obstetric ultrasound diagnosis; its diagnostic level is advanced nationally, and some of its technical capabilities have reached international standards. It has a high level of diagnosis and differential diagnosis for common and frequently occurring gynecological diseases, difficult and complicated conditions, and special types of ectopic pregnancy. The department conducts interventional ultrasound treatment in gynecology and intraoperative ultrasound monitoring, and actively explores contrast-enhanced ultrasound examinations of ovarian tumors and three-dimensional ultrasound examinations.

Our hospital has a Perinatal Consultation Center and a Prenatal Diagnostic Clinic, which mainly conduct screening and diagnosis of fetal hereditary diseases and intrauterine developmental defects, as well as diagnostic analysis of difficult and complicated conditions during the perinatal period. Ultrasound consultations are jointly provided by experts from this department and some ultrasound experts from other hospitals in Shanghai. They provide valuable information for clinical diagnosis and treatment, make positive contributions to reducing birth defects, improving perinatal care, and promoting healthy births and childrearing, and have earned a good social reputation.
