The Department of Stomatology was established in 1989. Since its opening, it has provided oral examinations and treatment for a large number of pregnant and postpartum women, making it one of the earliest professional teams in Shanghai dedicated specifically to maternal and child oral health care. In the course of long-term clinical work, dental professionals regularly visited subdistrict communities to conduct oral examinations for newborn infants and provide consultations to their parents. They also visited designated kindergartens to conduct general surveys and treatment of oral diseases among young children. Several years ago, the department also participated in the "Early Comprehensive Child Development Project—Prenatal Training" project of the Ministry of Health.
