Neonatology
International Peace Maternity & Child Health Hospital of China Welfare Institute
The Department of Neonatology was established in the early 1960s. It was the first independently established department of neonatology in China, and gradually established and improved the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), earning a certain reputation both domestically and internationally. Since the early days of the hospital’s establishment, it has completed the treatment and nursing care of nearly 300,000 newborns. To standardize the daily work of the NICU and clarify responsibilities, we have a comprehensive management system, while actively adopting advanced management models from China and abroad and applying new technologies and methods, with the aim of further improving the diagnostic, treatment, and management capabilities of our department for critically ill and difficult-to-treat children.
While completing clinical work, our department has, through the efforts of several generations over decades, developed a strong scientific research and teaching team. We have conducted multiple basic and clinical studies in the field of perinatal neonatology and have completed numerous projects, including WHO projects as well as national- and municipal-level projects. We have participated in writing authoritative professional works and published more than 100 articles in authoritative journals, including China’s core journals and Japanese medical journals. Among these, “An Analysis of 835 Cases of Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn over Eighteen Years” and “A Preliminary Study of Mother-to-Child Transmission of Hepatitis B in the Shanghai Area” possess considerable clinical and scientific research value.
