II. Premarital and Preconception Health-Care Clinic

As the only municipal hospital conducting foreign-related premarital examinations, it has specially trained full-time doctors who conduct premarital health examinations and consultations. In addition, a preconception health-care clinic was opened in 2003 in response to the national call to “comprehensively improve the quality of the birth population and achieve a strategic shift from prenatal–perinatal health care to preconception–periconception health care,” and to meet people’s needs for preventing birth defects in newborns and improving the quality of family life. This clinic represented a breakthrough of “zero” at our hospital and even in Shanghai. As one of the earliest hospitals in Shanghai to establish a preconception clinic, it relies on the Health Care Hospital’s strong professional and technical advantages and, taking into account the physiological characteristics and occupations of individual young couples of childbearing age, recommends suitable examination items to them. Through meticulous and thoughtful inquiries, comprehensive examination items, and professional post-examination consultation, it has received recognition from an increasing number of examinees and achieved broad positive social effects. Once pregnancy is detected, patients can be referred to our hospital’s obstetrics department, providing considerate “one-stop” service.
