Cardiovascular Surgery Ward III
Ward 3 of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University was established in 2002. While routinely performing surgical treatment for various common and frequently occurring cardiovascular surgical diseases, the ward focuses particularly on minimally invasive cardiac surgery, such as axillary mini-incision surgery for congenital heart disease in children. This covers all common congenital heart diseases, including atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, patent ductus arteriosus, cor triatriatum, and partial anomalous pulmonary venous return. Adults with congenital heart disease can also undergo this type of “small-incision surgery,” such as treatment through a right anterolateral incision (a concealed incision along the lower edge of the breast). The ward also performs surgery for critically ill newborns and infants with severe heart diseases, including tetralogy of Fallot, atrioventricular canal defects, and total anomalous pulmonary venous return. Minimally invasive incision surgery offers many advantages, including a small incision, minimal trauma, no need for sternotomy, rapid postoperative recovery, shorter hospitalization, lower hospital costs, and a concealed and aesthetically pleasing incision site; it has received extensive recognition and praise.
For the treatment of rheumatic cardiac valve stenosis and insufficiency, age-related valvular insufficiency, valvular vegetations caused by infective endocarditis, and valvular prolapse with insufficiency, conventional surgical procedures include mitral valve repair and reconstruction, mitral valve replacement, aortic valve replacement, tricuspid valvuloplasty, and tricuspid valve replacement. The ward is especially experienced in surgical treatment and perioperative drug therapy for severe valvular disease.
In the treatment of coronary heart disease, the ward performs off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair combined with bypass surgery, valve replacement combined with bypass surgery, and surgical treatment of coronary heart disease complicated by ventricular aneurysm, among other procedures. Cardiac tumor surgery and surgery for pericardial diseases such as pericardial masses are also routinely performed in our department.
Under the leadership of Director Zhang Qinghua, all medical and nursing staff in the ward have genuinely made the interests of patients their starting point. In accordance with current medical insurance DRG requirements, while continuously improving surgical techniques, they have developed a diagnosis and treatment plan suited to the characteristics of cardiac patients in this region. This plan ensures medical quality and an extremely high surgical success rate, while shortening patients’ hospital stays, substantially reducing hospitalization costs, and easing their financial burden.
While completing a large volume of medical work, Ward 3 of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery actively conducts clinical research and has received multiple provincial and municipal awards for scientific research achievements, scientific and technological progress, and new technologies. At the same time, the ward continuously learns from major medical centers in China and abroad and strengthens academic exchanges. It has established a sound and stable collaborative relationship with the Cardiac Surgery Center of Beijing Fuwai Hospital. Renowned experts from China and abroad are invited to the department several times each year to give lectures, perform surgeries, and provide guidance, rapidly improving the professional and academic standards of cardiovascular surgery. The motto of our department is “The principle of love, the virtue of the heart.” All medical and nursing staff of Cardiovascular Surgery Ward 3 will wholeheartedly safeguard the health of patients with cardiovascular diseases in our province.
