Cardiovascular Surgery Ward 1

The First Ward of Cardiac Surgery has always perfectly integrated medical care, teaching and research; the department has a very strong academic atmosphere and adheres to the work style of "firm politics, excellent technology, rigor and practicality", constantly forging ahead, pursuing excellence and pressing forward, and has repeatedly won hospital-level awards such as the star-rated nursing ward and the President's Special Award. The department currently has 24 medical and nursing staff, including 3 chief physicians, 1 chief nurse, 6 associate chief physicians, 1 associate chief nurse, 9 nurse supervisors and 4 senior nurses; including Professor Li Renke, a specially appointed professor, there are 3 doctoral supervisors and 3 master's degree supervisors in total.
While maintaining its traditional strengths and continuing to innovate, all medical and nursing staff, under the leadership of Director Professor Tian Hai, are dedicated to providing every patient with the highest quality medical service. The department is skilled in all highly difficult and complex cardiovascular surgical operations, including valvular heart disease, coronary heart disease, congenital heart disease and macrovascular disease, and is even more skilled in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, surgical treatment of severe valvular heart disease, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, surgical treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and comprehensive treatment of end-stage heart disease including stem cell transplantation, heart transplantation and artificial hearts.
As a member of the Minimally Invasive Cardiovascular Surgery Professional Committee of the National Cardiovascular Disease Expert Committee and the first chairman of the Minimally Invasive Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Professional Committee of the Heilongjiang Medical Association, Director Tian Hai has repeatedly studied at internationally renowned heart centers in the United States, Germany, Canada and other countries, and has repeatedly invited minimally invasive cardiac surgery experts from Beijing Fuwai Hospital, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Sichuan West China Hospital, Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University in Shanghai and other institutions to conduct surgical demonstrations and clinical exchanges. He is committed to advancing the minimally invasive nature of cardiac surgery and took the lead in the three northeastern provinces in carrying out totally endoscopic cardiac surgery, TAVI procedures, the Liwen procedure for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and other minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures. On the premise of ensuring surgical results, the trauma of traditional surgery, which requires splitting the sternum and an incision of nearly 20 cm, has been reduced to no sternal split or only partial sternal split with an incision of merely 3-4 cm, greatly alleviating postoperative pain, shortening postoperative recovery time, lowering surgical treatment costs, and meeting the needs of patients for safety and aesthetics.
As the valvular heart disease specialty of the Cardiac Surgery Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, the First Ward of Cardiac Surgery has reached internationally aligned and domestically leading levels in the surgical treatment of various rheumatic, degenerative, congenital and infectious heart valve diseases. The team led by Director Professor Tian Hai frequently participates in international advanced valve training. In addition to routinely performing valve replacement and valve repair under cardiopulmonary bypass, it has accumulated rich clinical experience in the surgical treatment of severe valvular heart disease in elderly patients, patients with poor cardiac function and patients with giant hearts; the surgical results are good and have achieved a positive social response, bringing good news to the treatment of patients with valvular heart disease. In addition, the ward has specially established the "Valve Home" official account and WeChat patient group, which have become the social communication center for cardiac surgery diseases of our hospital, enabling doctors to promptly understand the recovery status of each patient, further improving the postoperative follow-up mechanism, and doing their utmost and taking full responsibility for every patient.
Atrial fibrillation, also called AF, is a very common arrhythmia at present and has become the "epidemic" of the 21st century. Stroke is one of the main complications of patients with atrial fibrillation and is characterized by high incidence, high disability rate and high mortality. The First Ward of Cardiac Surgery of our hospital took the lead in the three northeastern provinces in carrying out surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation. In addition to routinely performing surgical radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation at the same time as valve surgery, it also cooperates with Beijing Anzhen Hospital to carry out minimally invasive surgical radiofrequency ablation for isolated long-standing persistent atrial fibrillation, and can remove the source of stroke — the left atrial appendage — during the operation by minimally invasive means, eliminating the occurrence of various left atrial appendage thromboses, cerebral embolism and stroke; this is currently the most effective and most thorough treatment method.
For patients with end-stage heart disease, the department has inherited the long history of heart transplantation at our hospital: in 2012 it successfully completed China's first emergency second heart transplantation, in 2015 it successfully completed the province's first DBD heart transplantation and the province's first DBD single-donor multi-recipient organ transplantation, in 2017 it successfully completed the province's first DCD heart transplantation, and in 2018 it successfully performed a fourth cardiac operation to replace the heart in a patient who had previously undergone 3 cardiac operations. To date, the patient saved by the discipline has survived for as long as 30 years and still lives healthily, maintaining the record for the best quality of survival and the longest survival time in Asia. In addition, the First Ward of Cardiovascular Surgery has also cooperated vigorously with the domestic artificial hearts "Yongrenxin", "Zhongguoxin" and "Huojianxin" and has long persisted in cooperating with the Toronto General Hospital of the University of Toronto in Canada to carry out clinical work on artificial hearts, doing its utmost to provide patients with integrated treatment of end-stage heart disease — including stem cell transplantation and artificial hearts — and other cutting-edge treatment methods of cardiovascular surgery.
We believe that under the guidance of the philosophy of "patients first, careful medical care", the First Department of Cardiac Surgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University will surely create new glories in the new era!
