Obstetrics and Gynecology Ward III (Obstetrics)
Since its establishment in the 1950s, the Department of Obstetrics of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University has, through the efforts of several generations of pioneers in obstetrics and gynecology, undergone more than half a century of challenges and achievements, making outstanding contributions to maternal and child healthcare in Heilongjiang Province. For many years, it has undertaken pregnancy and childbirth care for pregnant women from within and outside China and from within and outside the province, as well as the rescue of critically ill and complex obstetric patients from within and outside the province. It has also provided advanced training for obstetric and maternal and child healthcare professionals from within and outside the province. After the obstetric ward was independently established in 2008, it developed into a specialized ward focused primarily on medical care and integrating teaching, research, and nursing, providing preconception and perinatal healthcare, medical care, and nursing.
Our philosophy: First-class standards to lead the development of the discipline; first-class technology to relieve patients’ suffering; first-class service to ensure the safety of mothers and babies. With our hands, we lift up mothers’ smiles and babies’ tomorrows.
Our services: The service principles of our department are to uphold a “people-oriented” approach, ensure the safety of mothers and babies, optimize the service environment, develop distinctive health education, and continuously cultivate a positive service image among medical and nursing staff. The obstetric outpatient department has comprehensive systems for perinatal care and high-risk pregnancy management, providing pregnant women with high-quality, efficient, and compassionate services. In its nursing work, the obstetric ward has established the “six nursing service procedures”: “welcome warmly, explain patiently, ask attentively, act carefully, offer help proactively, and see patients off cordially.” With the needs of mothers and babies at its core, it strictly safeguards obstetric quality and provides services for healthy childbirth and childrearing. The delivery room provides services including pain-free childbirth, childbirth accompanied by family members, and doula-supported childbirth. Throughout labor, midwives continuously provide women with physical, psychological, emotional, and medical and nursing encouragement and support, helping them feel comfortable and safe and assisting them in giving birth smoothly.
Our team: Ward 3 of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University has 44 medical and nursing staff members, including 15 doctors, 17 nurses, and 12 midwives. At present, there are 15 doctors, including 7 with doctoral degrees, 5 doctoral candidates, and 8 with master’s degrees. There are 5 chief physicians, 5 associate chief physicians, and 5 attending physicians.
Our technology: The research and development priorities of our department are perinatal medicine, maternal-fetal medicine, high-risk pregnancy, prenatal diagnosis, and fetal surgery. The obstetric outpatient department includes perinatal care and high-risk pregnancy clinics, as well as a maternity school, providing comprehensive care before conception, during pregnancy, and throughout childbirth and the postpartum period. The Prenatal Diagnosis Center can perform Down syndrome screening, amniocentesis, umbilical cord blood sampling, and fluorescence in situ hybridization. The obstetric ward includes LDR integrated rooms, standard mother-and-baby rooming-in wards, single rooms, and suites. It can provide pain-free childbirth and doula-supported childbirth, and has accumulated extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of high-risk pregnancy, difficult labor, pregnancy complicated by medical or surgical diseases, and complex obstetric disorders. In 2013, our department was the first in the province to perform fetal surgery successfully.
Our equipment: The outpatient department is equipped with obstetric three-dimensional ultrasound and fetal cardiac ultrasound imaging and diagnostic equipment. The obstetric ward includes LDR integrated rooms, standard wards, standard mother-and-baby rooming-in rooms, single rooms, and suites.
