Distinctive features of Neurology Ward 3:
I. Treatment of acute ischemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and other cerebrovascular diseases, with comprehensive management throughout the entire course of cerebrovascular disease prevention and treatment, recurrence prevention, and rehabilitation guidance: We were the first in the province to perform intravenous and intra-arterial thrombolysis for ischemic stroke in the ultra-early stage, successfully treating a large number of critically ill patients with ischemic stroke. Our thrombolytic and antithrombotic techniques have become increasingly refined. Combined with comprehensive acute-phase management, individualized treatment plans, systematic medical support, and timely symptomatic treatment, our therapeutic outcomes are at the leading level in the province. We have earned the deep trust of patients and enjoy an outstanding reputation both within and beyond the province. At the same time, using our hospital’s advanced MRI, CT angiography, and ultrasound technologies, we work with the Department of Neurosurgery to perform cerebral angiography, stent placement, acute-phase thrombectomy, and other advanced procedures, enabling patients with severe cerebrovascular stenosis who are at imminent risk of cerebral infarction to avoid the suffering of hemiplegia and aphasia. Under the leadership of Director Fu Jin, the entire Neurology Ward 3 team—including Zhang Xuemei, Wang Rui, and Yu Chunjiang—has long conducted screening, follow-up prevention, and treatment of high-risk factors for cerebrovascular disease. For patients who have previously been hospitalized in our ward, we provide long-term recurrence-prevention management and conduct basic research. Under the leadership of Head Nurse Wang Xu, we have a highly skilled nursing team. Over the years, their compassion, meticulousness, and sense of responsibility have earned patients’ trust and high praise. All medical and nursing staff in Neurology Ward 3 are always ready to welcome patients with cerebrovascular disease and get through the difficult times together with you.
II. Diagnosis and treatment of multiple sclerosis, other autoimmune diseases of the nervous system, and infectious diseases of the central nervous system: The Department of Neurology is at the national leading level in the field of multiple sclerosis and other neuroimmunological diseases. In recent years, we have continuously introduced new diagnostic and treatment methods in line with international standards, attracting large numbers of patients from within and outside the province who seek care because of our reputation. These include patients with multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, Guillain–Barré syndrome, myasthenia gravis, autoimmune encephalitis, and other conditions. Professor Fu Jin has devoted many years to basic and clinical research on multiple sclerosis and neuroinfectious diseases. He has extensive clinical experience and substantial academic expertise, has undertaken multiple projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and provincial projects in this field, and has received numerous provincial and municipal research awards for his findings, which have been highly praised by experts in China and abroad. In collaboration with more than 20 nationally renowned hospitals, including Peking Union Medical College Hospital and PLA General Hospital No. 301, we have established a national multiple sclerosis diagnosis and treatment network and conducted clinical research on new drugs. We have carried out the China Charity Federation’s multiple sclerosis patient assistance program, established an information database and patient communication group for people with multiple sclerosis in Heilongjiang Province and surrounding areas, and provided free long-term follow-up, prevention, and treatment. We regularly organize multiple sclerosis patient support-group activities, providing free consultation, diagnosis, and treatment. Zhang Xuemei, Wang Rui, Yang Dan, Huang Shan, Yue Hui, Wang Yifei, Zhou Yinglian, Rang Xinming, Hong Xiangxiang, and other physicians have provided long-term follow-up for patients and have earned the deep trust of the majority of them.
III. Diagnosis and treatment of vertigo: Professor Fu Jin was the first in the province to provide diagnosis and treatment for vertigo. In 2017, he founded the Vertigo Specialty Committee of the Heilongjiang Medical Association. Every year, he organizes the Heilongjiang Medical Association Vertigo Conference, exchanges knowledge with leading experts in China and abroad, and actively shares his experience with peer hospitals and departments throughout the province, leading the province’s vertigo specialty to remain at the academic forefront of vertigo diagnosis and treatment. He has published many papers on vertigo in authoritative domestic and international journals and has received several provincial awards for new technologies. In 2018, the Vertigo Functional Examination Room of Neurology Ward 3 was established, and the ward was designated by the Heilongjiang Provincial Health Commission as the Heilongjiang Province Vertigo Diagnosis and Treatment Center. Director Fu Jin has led Zhang Xuemei, Yang Dan, Wang Duo, Yue Hui, and other physicians in taking the lead in the province in carrying out systematic interdisciplinary examinations and treatment for vertigo. Manual repositioning for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, also known as otolithiasis, produces immediate and excellent results, with a cure rate of more than 95%. In 2023, a specialty vertigo clinic was established, where Professor Zhang Xuemei provides consultations and definitive diagnosis and treatment for various types of vertigo.
IV. Chief Physician Yu Chunjiang has conducted in-depth research and accumulated extensive clinical experience in dementia and motor neuron disease, while Chief Physician Huang Shan has done so in restless legs syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions. They have maintained long-term follow-up and provided guidance. More than 20 SCI papers in these fields have been published, and they have undertaken projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and multiple provincial projects.
V. Prevention and treatment of psychosomatic diseases: With the rise of psychosomatic medicine in recent years, under the guidance of Director Fu Jin, the physicians in Neurology Ward 3 have developed a deeper understanding of and greater ability to apply the psychological–physiological–social medical model, achieving highly satisfactory results. Patients’ treatment outcomes and satisfaction have improved substantially. Associate Chief Physician Li Bing has successively obtained the national Level II psychological counselor qualification and the intermediate psychotherapist qualification. He was sent to Peking University Sixth Hospital for advanced training, where he received training in the currently mainstream psychotherapy approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, mindfulness, and dialectical behavior therapy. He has undertaken systematic study in anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, affective disorders, adolescent psychological disorders, and other conditions, and has established prospective collaborations with several experts at Peking University Sixth Hospital. We believe that in the future, Neurology Ward 3 will provide patients with more precise diagnosis and treatment for psychosomatic diseases.
