Geriatric Ward I
The Department of Geriatric Medicine was established in 1981. After 40 years of effort and accumulated experience, and relying on the internationalized comprehensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities as well as the research and teaching background of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University, it has become a clinical specialty centered on the diagnosis and treatment of multiple diseases and health care for middle-aged and older adults, integrating treatment, rehabilitation, prevention, and health care. It is one of the first doctoral programs in geriatric medicine established in the province and one of the first national training bases for geriatric medicine specialists. The department follows the motto of “benevolence, integrity, dedication, and pragmatism,” and advocates and practices the service philosophy of “being meticulous in every detail and striving for excellence.”
Ward 1 of the Department of Geriatric Medicine has a highly qualified team of medical and healthcare professionals with excellent technical skills and a strong professional work ethic. Among the department’s 9 physicians, there are 3 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, 1 attending physician, and 1 resident physician; 1 doctoral supervisor, 2 master’s supervisors, 8 physicians with doctoral degrees, and 2 postdoctoral fellows. There are currently 27 nursing personnel, including 2 with associate senior professional titles, 20 nurse-in-charges, 3 nurses, and 2 nurses, all of whom have extensive clinical nursing experience. The department has repeatedly been recognized as an outstanding collective, and its members have repeatedly been honored as advanced individuals of the hospital and university, March 8 Red-Banner Holders, and outstanding workers in their positions, among other distinctions.
The medical specialties of our department include the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of geriatric cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, osteoporosis, geriatric dementia, diabetes, and other diseases. We are particularly skilled in treating critically ill older patients with multiple coexisting diseases. For older patients requiring inpatient diagnosis and treatment, we provide meticulous, patient-centered, and multidisciplinary collaborative diagnostic and treatment services. We have developed particular expertise in treating acute and critical illnesses and multiple-organ failure in very elderly patients.
Nursing is a highlight of our department and also a model for the entire hospital. Our department provides holistic nursing throughout the entire process, involving all staff and covering all aspects, enabling patients to receive high-level nursing services, including treatment and nursing care, assistance with daily living, psychological comfort, and emotional support. The nursing team has a high overall level of professional dedication, excellent clinical and technical skills, and strong team cohesion. On the basis of standardized practice, it provides distinctive nursing services, including health education, accompaniment to examinations, seamless nursing care, out-of-hospital guidance, and extended geriatric nursing care.
