Obstetrics and Gynecology Endoscopy Outpatient Clinic
The Gynecologic Endoscopy Outpatient Clinic of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University was established in the late 1990s. Over more than 20 years of development, it now has approximately 40,000 outpatient visits annually, with more than 6,000 hysteroscopy examinations and more than 10,000 colposcopy examinations per year. The medical team comprises 2 dedicated physicians, 5 nurses, and 3 nursing assistants.
The person in charge is Professor Song Tiefang, Deputy Chair of the Gynecologic Minimally Invasive Specialty Committee of the Heilongjiang Association for Maternal and Child Health and Healthy Reproduction, and Deputy Chair of the Specialty Committee of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology of the Heilongjiang Medical Association. In the area of cervical disease, in addition to routine colposcopy, cervical cancer screening, cervical biopsy, and diagnostic endocervical curettage, the clinic is particularly dedicated to the precise assessment and early detection of endocervical canal diseases. It was among the first in China to perform endoscopy of the endocervical canal, with the aim of detecting occult high-grade lesions within the canal and providing an important basis for clinicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical diseases. It was also the first in Heilongjiang Province to carry out photodynamic therapy for gynecologic cervical diseases; its effectiveness in clearing cervical precancerous lesions and high-risk HPV is better than that of traditional drug therapy.
For intrauterine diseases, an imported STORZ hysteroscope is routinely used. In addition to extensive clinical experience in diagnosing common intrauterine diseases such as endometrial polyps, submucosal uterine fibroids, uterine malformations, and intrauterine adhesions, the clinic has also carried out substantial work in removing embedded intrauterine contraceptive devices, diagnosing endometrial cancer and precancerous lesions, and performing special staining of the uterine cavity. It has also conducted in-depth research and exploration into the diagnosis and treatment of early endometrial cancer while preserving fertility. Ultrasound-guided hysterosalpingography is performed routinely; compared with traditional tubal hydrotubation, it is more definitive, causes less discomfort, and the contrast medium does not harm the body.
In recent years, the annual number of patients treated by the Gynecologic Endoscopy Outpatient Clinic and its level of medical care have consistently remained among the leading levels in the province. The clinic will continue contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of gynecologic diseases for more women in Heilongjiang.
