General Surgery Ward 5
General Surgery Ward 5 provides minimally invasive, vascular and liver surgery. It has 45 beds, 10 doctors and 10 nurses; six doctors hold senior or associate senior titles. Its affiliations include national endoscopic thyroid surgery and training centers, provincial thyroid surgery and integrated Chinese-Western minimally invasive digestive disease alliances, and a retroperitoneal and pelvic floor disease center. The hospital has repeatedly recognized the ward as an advanced clinical department and designated general surgery a university-level key department. Using fourth-generation da Vinci robots and laparoscopy, the team performs complex grade III–IV procedures. More than 100 fully robotic pancreaticoduodenectomies, thyroid and gastrointestinal operations have been performed. Other procedures include totally endoscopic thyroid cancer surgery with lateral neck dissection, laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy, radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy and modified Appleby surgery with celiac axis resection (DP-CAR), which received second prizes for new technology. The hospital reports that its transoral endoscopic and robotic thyroid operations and totally endoscopic thyroid cancer surgery with neck dissection filled a regional gap, and that these techniques have been introduced to over 30 hospitals in the province. Professor Luo Chenghua has established a workstation for periodic consultations and surgery. More than 2,000 cases involving lower-limb arterial and venous disease, carotid stenosis and abdominal aortic disease have been treated. The nursing team has two nurses-in-charge, five nurses and three junior nurses. Seven hold specialty qualifications, including critical care (1), PICC (4), infusion therapy (1), day surgery (3), and ostomy and wound care (2); qualifications can overlap. The team has experience caring for critically ill patients.
