Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine
Oncology Department — November 2022. The Oncology Department of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine has one chief physician, one deputy chief physician, three attending physicians and one resident physician. Its academic ladder includes two senior, three intermediate and one junior professional, two doctors and four master's graduates. During the past five years it undertook one provincial or ministerial project, published more than ten papers in core national journals and published one book. In addition to clinical oncology, it teaches oncology and hematology theory and clinical practice to students at all levels. The department studies mechanisms and efficacy evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine for hematologic tumors and treats many patients with lung, liver, pancreatic, esophageal and breast cancer, aplastic anemia and immune thrombocytopenic purpura. Based on each patient's etiology it formulates individualized Chinese medicines. Its characteristic approach follows traditional theory to regulate qi, blood, fluids, viscera and channels and balance yin and yang, using acupoint injections and local herbal plasters to inhibit tumors, relieve pain and swelling and improve circulation. For early and intermediate disease it seeks to improve or eliminate symptoms and stabilize, shrink or eliminate tumors with minimal harm; for advanced cancer it aims to support longer survival with preserved quality of life. Combined with surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, Chinese medicine may support recovery, improve efficacy and reduce digestive symptoms, marrow suppression and alopecia; for patients unsuitable for those treatments or with poor response, it may improve symptoms, stabilize disease and prolong survival, and for high-risk people such as families with breast cancer or precancerous lesions it is used to delay or prevent tumor development.
