一、Department Overview
The Department of Nephrology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine was established in 2007 and, after years of development, has formed a highly educated, highly qualified, and highly skilled medical team. The department has 8 medical and nursing staff members: 5 physicians, including 1 Heilongjiang Provincial Distinguished TCM Physician and Longjiang Famous Physician, 1 Heilongjiang Provincial Young Distinguished TCM Physician, 2 master’s research supervisors, 1 chief physician, 1 deputy chief physician, 1 postdoctoral fellow, 2 doctors with doctoral degrees, and 3 with master’s degrees; and 3 nurses, including 3 nurse practitioners. The department currently has 20 beds and is equipped with colon dialysis machines, moxibustion devices, microwave therapy devices, medium-frequency pulse therapy devices, and other equipment.
“A physician should have a benevolent heart; medicine is also a matter of intention, and one who is skilled in applying intention is a good physician.” Upholding the philosophy of “conducting oneself conscientiously, working steadily, putting people first, placing patients at the center, and serving patients with kidney disease wholeheartedly,” the department is guided by TCM theory, highlights the distinctive features of TCM, and integrates Chinese and Western medicine. According to the different stages of CKD in patients, it reasonably selects diverse TCM characteristic diagnostic and therapeutic approaches and provides comprehensive, integrated diagnostic and treatment services. With precise medical expertise and meticulous care, the department serves as patients’ “kidney-protection envoy” and genuinely relieves the suffering of patients with kidney disease in Longjiang.
二、Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment
Integrated Chinese and Western medicine is used to treat acute and chronic renal failure, acute and chronic glomerulonephritis, IgA nephropathy, nephrotic syndrome, ischemic nephropathy in older adults, refractory urinary tract infections, diabetic nephropathy, hypertensive renal damage, uric acid nephropathy, lupus nephritis, purpuric nephritis, kidney stones of the urinary system, and other primary and secondary renal-system diseases, as well as dialysis complications.
Department Features
The department adheres to the principles of preventing disease before it occurs, preventing progression after disease has developed, intervening early, and treating early, while pursuing therapeutic efficacy as the top priority. It has established an integrated TCM and Chinese-Western medicine diagnostic and treatment model consisting of TCM, Chinese herbal medicine (oral and external)—physiotherapy—Chinese herbal fumigation and washing—acupoint application—acupuncture—acupoint injection—dialysis (colon dialysis, peritoneal dialysis), and other approaches. This aims to reduce proteinuria associated with kidney disease, alleviate hematuria, improve clinical symptoms and pathological structure, relieve numerous dialysis complications, and improve quality of life; the clinical efficacy is rapid and striking, like a drumbeat.
1、Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Treatment of Renal-System (Urinary-System) Diseases
Under the guidance of TCM theory, the department uses all four diagnostic methods in combination and treats renal-system (urinary-system) diseases through syndrome differentiation and treatment. It is skilled in applying advanced medical technologies and methods, drawing on the strengths of both Chinese and Western medicine, highlighting the distinctive feature of syndrome-based treatment in TCM, and emphasizing holistic regulation, including regulation of diet, daily routine, emotional state, and medication. Individualized treatment is provided, incorporating oral Chinese herbal decoctions, enemas, medicated baths, fumigation and steaming, acupuncture, massage, gua sha, physiotherapy, and other traditional therapies into kidney disease treatment, thereby forming an integrated Chinese-Western medicine treatment model for kidney disease with distinctive features and significant efficacy.
2、Treatment of Kidney Diseases with Characteristic TCM Therapies
The department provides characteristic TCM therapies including Chinese herbal iontophoresis, Chinese herbal fumigation and washing, Chinese herbal immersion baths, acupoint application, auricular acupressure with seeds, acupuncture, buckwheat packs, Chinese herbal hot compress packs, Chinese herbal tea, medicated pillows, and moxibustion. These therapies regulate the balance of yin and yang in the zang-fu organs and unblock the meridians. They are applicable to various kidney diseases and have significant clinical efficacy.
