I. Center Overview
The Center for Preventive Treatment was established against the backdrop of China’s Traditional Chinese Medicine preventive healthcare system project—the “Preventive Treatment” Project—to meet the health needs of residents of our city for health maintenance and disease prevention. It mainly provides health examinations and TCM preventive healthcare and wellness treatment services. It currently has 4 outpatient rooms and 10 preventive healthcare rooms, with 31 medical, teaching, and research personnel, including 2 doctoral degree holders and 8 master’s degree holders. The department has consistently centered its work on health examinations and healthcare treatment and is committed to providing the public with high-quality health services.
The Center for Preventive Treatment integrates health examinations with TCM preventive healthcare and treatment services. It has an independent health examination department and a variety of high-end examination devices, providing personalized examination services for examinees with different circumstances and needs.
The Center for Preventive Treatment can identify and classify the constitutions of people in subhealth conditions, thereby developing individualized and highly targeted wellness and healthcare programs. The department has established four areas: the examination area, healthcare area, expert outpatient area, and VIP treatment area. It provides distinctive TCM healthcare techniques, including constitution identification, herbal paste formulas, acupuncture, tuina, medicated baths, gua sha, cupping, ear acupressure, TCM foot therapy and back massage, Sanfu patches, and acupoint thread embedding. It also conducts comprehensive regulation and conditioning in conjunction with domestically leading physiotherapy equipment, including Chinese herbal fumigation, ultrasound, shock waves, and Wifa light.
The Center for Preventive Treatment is a leader in scientific research achievements in the field of TCM preventive healthcare. Its core staff have published numerous academic papers and led multiple national and provincial/ministerial-level scientific research projects. The center has been designated by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as a Key Discipline of TCM Preventive Medicine and as a Heilongjiang Provincial Key Specialty of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
II. Scope of Diagnosis and Treatment
Orthopedic conditions such as neck, shoulder, lower-back, and leg pain; subhealth conditions; chronic consumptive and deficiency diseases; constitutional weakness; comprehensive intervention for various chronic diseases; insomnia and fatigue; beauty and weight reduction; constitution identification; and prevention and healthcare for common diseases.
III. Distinctive Advantages
1. The four TCM diagnostic methods and constitution identification. The latest domestically leading TCM four-diagnostic instrument has been introduced. It uses a computer program to apply the TCM methods of inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and palpation. Every person’s constitution differs to some extent, and the quality of an individual’s constitution directly affects their health status. Constitutions are mainly divided into 9 basic types: balanced constitution, qi-deficiency constitution, qi-stagnation constitution, damp-heat constitution, phlegm-dampness constitution, special constitution, yang-deficiency constitution, yin-deficiency constitution, and blood-stasis constitution. Different constitutional types are suited to different health-maintenance methods; otherwise, the result may be counterproductive. After constitution identification, suitable wellness methods—such as exercise, daily routine, and diet—and healthcare methods—such as acupuncture, tuina, gua sha, fumigation, cupping, and foot baths—can be selected according to the constitutional type.
2. Herbal paste-formula conditioning. A herbal paste formula, also called a “gao” or “gaozhi,” is an internal dosage form made by decocting Chinese medicines in water 3 times, removing the dregs and filtering, and then concentrating the decoction with various auxiliary materials such as gelatinous syrups. It is an important component of Chinese medicine and has a long history. It is not limited to nourishing and tonifying the body; it also has a good conditioning effect on many subhealth conditions. The key to conditioning with herbal paste formulas is to formulate one suited to the individual’s constitution and health status under the guidance of the TCM holistic concept and the principle of treatment based on syndrome differentiation.
3. Acupoint thread embedding. Its mechanism of action is that, as the thread softens, decomposes, liquefies, and is absorbed in the body, it produces physiological, physical, and chemical stimulation of the acupoints for 15 days or longer. This produces a slow, gentle, lasting, and beneficial “long-acting acupuncture-sensation effect” at the acupoints, enabling the channels and collaterals to be unblocked over an extended period and achieving the effect of “deep insertion and prolonged retention to treat stubborn diseases.” Indications: headache, trigeminal neuralgia, intercostal neuralgia, herpes zoster, sciatica, and pain caused by acute or chronic lumbar and back muscle strain. Dizziness, arrhythmia, hypertension, hyperhidrosis, gastrointestinal dysfunction, neurasthenia, insomnia, menstrual irregularities, ocular and facial muscle spasms, and enuresis. Chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, chronic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, chronic enteritis, chronic hemiplegia, arthritis, neurodermatitis, facial pigmentation, and chronic rhinitis. Acupoint thread embedding is also widely used in cosmetic fields such as weight reduction, removal of facial blemishes, and wrinkle reduction.
4. Extracorporeal shock wave therapy device. Shock wave therapy is a safe and effective, noninvasive treatment method with few complications. A series of studies conducted on various diseases has demonstrated its promising application prospects. It is suitable for osteonecrosis of the femoral head, periarthritis of the shoulder, long-head biceps tendinitis, subacromial bursitis, supraspinatus tendinitis, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, patellar tendinitis, Achilles tendinitis, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, lumbar muscle strain, neck and shoulder pain, and other conditions. It also has significant efficacy for some sensory-disorder diseases.
5. Ultrasound therapy device. Ultrasound can increase tissue temperature, improve local blood circulation and nutrition, and promote the absorption of edema and resolution of inflammation. It treats soft-tissue sprains and contusions, strain, nerve injury, peripheral neuropathy, neuralgia, neuritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, scar softening, adhesion release, acute joint sprains, periarthritis of the shoulder, tenosynovitis, tennis elbow, osteoarthropathy, and other conditions.
6. Integrated TCM and Western medical examinations. Combining the theory of TCM constitution identification with modern medical examinations enables a more comprehensive and scientific analysis of health status and assessment of health trends. The advantage of this examination model is that when routine examinations cannot detect abnormal indicators, it can identify potential disease trends, allowing more proactive preventive healthcare measures to be taken to prevent disease before it occurs.
7. Comprehensive healthcare services. The Center for Preventive Treatment offers a variety of preventive healthcare services, including acupuncture, tuina, foot baths, cupping, gua sha, and Sanfu patches. It provides comprehensive TCM health interventions for healthy people, people in subhealth conditions, and people with chronic diseases, playing a positive role in maintaining health, improving subhealth conditions, and promoting recovery from disease.
