Introduction to Ward 2 of the Department of Geriatrics
(2025.2)
This department integrates clinical care, teaching and research and is one of the hospital’s distinctive departments. It combines TCM techniques with modern science, focusing on diagnosis and treatment of common and frequent diseases in older adults, especially emergency and critical, difficult and complex geriatric diseases, as well as outpatient services featuring appropriate TCM techniques. There are 6 doctors and 7 nurses, with a well-structured team. Their specialties include acupuncture and tuina, cardio-cerebrovascular medicine, and integrated Chinese-Western medicine. The clinically experienced, multidisciplinary team improves the ability to manage multiple diseases in older adults. Given multimorbidity, complex conditions and long treatment courses, the department actively uses acupuncture, moxibustion, gua sha, cupping and foot baths for geriatric diseases or symptoms with clear causes and definite efficacy; conducts comprehensive geriatric assessment, geriatric-syndrome diagnosis and multidisciplinary care; and screens inpatients for falls, venous thrombosis, nutritional risk, aspiration and falling from bed. It researches common chronic respiratory and metabolic diseases, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, frailty and sarcopenia, improving clinical efficacy. Applied research in geriatric rehabilitation nursing and function maintenance improves quality of life and is highly praised.
