The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Hanan Branch of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine was established at the end of 2016. The department has a team of 6 doctors. All doctors in the department hold at least master's degrees in orthopedics and traumatology, with strong professional expertise and excellent medical skills. All nursing staff hold at least bachelor's degrees, with high professional competence and a strong sense of responsibility. At present, our department undertakes the clinical care, teaching, and research tasks related to orthopedics and traumatology at the Hanan Branch. The department currently has 1 musculoskeletal ultrasound machine, 1 extracorporeal shock wave therapy device, 1 ultrasound therapy device, 2 imported computerized automatic traction beds, 1 spinal decompression system, 4 traditional Chinese medicine fumigation treatment beds, as well as medical equipment including a medium- and low-frequency pulsed direct-current therapy device, semiconductor laser therapy device, microwave therapy device, red-light therapy device, moxibustion device, drug iontophoresis therapy device, orthopedic trauma therapy device, and deep muscle stimulation device.
Main orthopedic conditions treated and medical specialties:
1. Intra-articular injection of sodium hyaluronate into the knee joint combined with needle-knife therapy is used to treat severe knee osteoarthritis and ankle osteoarthritis, with significant results. It is particularly important for elderly patients with severe clinical symptoms who are unsuitable for surgical treatment.
2. Regarding the medical challenge of preserving the femoral head in the treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head, patients in ARCO stages I and II receive intra-articular infusion of a traditional Chinese medicine injection into the hip joint. This enables the effective medicinal components to reach the ischemic lesions in the femoral head directly, improves microcirculation and bone metabolism in the necrotic area, enhances patients’ quality of life, and delays the time of hip replacement.
3. In treating spine-related diseases such as severe lumbar disc herniation and lumbar spinal stenosis, in addition to traction and manual reduction combined with acupuncture, massage, physiotherapy, and intravenous infusion, nerve-root outlet block under C-arm fluoroscopy can also be used to effectively relieve pain symptoms.
4. With precise localization under musculoskeletal ultrasound visualization, needle-knife techniques and joint puncture can effectively resolve the lack of visual access during closed needle-knife release procedures and joint puncture. Ultrasound clearly identifies the exact locations of tissues such as tendons, blood vessels, nerves, and joint capsules, enabling the needle knife and joint puncture needle to reach the affected area directly and avoiding unnecessary injury. This technique has significant efficacy in treating sports-related injuries such as tenosynovitis, fasciitis, plantar heel pain, tennis elbow, and periarthritis of the shoulder.
5. In treating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and gouty arthritis, integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy minimizes the use of hormones whenever possible, reduces the frequency of disease recurrence, and controls symptoms.
6. Traditional manual techniques, small splints, medicated plasters, plaster fixation, and other methods are used to treat fractures at various sites without obvious displacement, as well as contusions and sprains at various sites.
