Health Examination Center
November 2022
The Preventive Treatment and Health Examination Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine was established in April 2011. It was the first Class A tertiary centre for integrated Chinese and Western medicine health examination in Heilongjiang Province, has been designated a key discipline of preventive medicine by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and a key specialty of the Heilongjiang Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a member of the sixth national batch of health management demonstration bases, and has long provided examination packages and health care services for provincial government departments, enterprises and institutions, universities and provincial and municipal banks. It is the only examination centre in the province with a complete post-examination intervention programme. The centre has 35 medical and nursing staff, including 3 with senior professional titles and 12 with a master's degree or above, working mainly in acupuncture, tuina, rehabilitation, diagnostics, neurology, gynaecology and Western clinical medicine. It works with eight third-party online examination platforms and has one branch centre, located at No. 26 Hanan Second Avenue, Pingfang District — a Class A tertiary health management centre under the main hospital offering skilled medicine, a comfortable environment, consultations with renowned physicians, complete specialties and attentive service.
Branch: Health Examination Center of the Southern Campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine (Class A tertiary).
The centre operates through four modules — examination area, health care area, outpatient area and inpatient area — and applies a three-stage health management model: before, during and after the examination.
1. Before the examination
1) Price lists of examination items in electronic and printed form, questionnaires, and, where appropriate, human biosystem testing, the Daosheng four-diagnosis TCM device and far-infrared imaging are provided in advance to screen for potential health risks and body constitution, so that the subsequent laboratory and imaging tests are precisely targeted and examinees are not left choosing tests blindly or inappropriately. 2) Ten staff members with a master's degree or above receive examinees at the same time and, on the basis of the basic questionnaire and screening results, provide one-to-one service and a tailor-made list of examination items.
2. During the examination
1) Following the item list, a nurse accompanies and guides the examinee throughout the examination. 2) A breakfast is provided after the examination, and the electronic report can be viewed by the examinee within three working days.
3. After the examination
1) Electronic reports can be consulted and results checked quickly on a mobile phone, which facilitates further medical visits. 2) Reports are interpreted and assessed by a dedicated consultation group; four physicians with a master's degree or above answer questions face to face every day and a 24-hour telephone consultation service is available. 3) Professional advice or a treatment plan is given according to disease risk; those who need further care are fast-tracked through a green channel to the hospital's leading experts — nationally renowned veteran TCM physicians, provincial famous TCM physicians, Longjiang famous physicians, young Qihuang scholars and provincial young famous TCM physicians — and to VIP inpatient wards, so that the examinee's health is protected in every respect throughout. 4) A telephone follow-up service is in place: the reviewing physician checks the reports daily, and any suspicious positive finding is followed up by telephone at once, with advice to undergo further tests or to pay attention and re-examine regularly. 5) An electronic health record is built up with comparisons over time: at repeat examinations the system compares earlier results, accurately tracks the development of disease and changes in indicators, and gives preliminary recommendations on suitable examination items.
Equipment
The centre is well equipped, with a Philips 1.5T MRI, a Philips 64-slice spiral CT, a Philips DR unit, four colour ultrasound scanners (Hitachi Aloka 70 with elastography, Hitachi Aloka 60 with elastography, JElg7 and Philips CX50), a Korean ultrasound bone densitometer, a Shanghai Guangdian 12-lead ECG machine, a Haidewei C13 unit, an Omron automatic blood pressure monitor and a Daosheng four-diagnosis TCM device. All equipment is managed and operated in strict accordance with national requirements and is disinfected after every use each day (alcohol wiping and ultraviolet disinfection).
Signature services
Acupuncture, tuina, gua sha, cupping, shockwave, medium-frequency therapy, water-filtered infrared A (wIRA) light, auricular acupressure with seeds, acupoint patching, rectal instillation, acupoint sealing, moxibustion and foot bath, back-tuina sanfu patches, sanjiu patches, catgut embedding for weight loss, herbal fumigation and traction — green therapies used mainly for suboptimal health, fatigue, insomnia, neck and lower back and joint pain, gastrointestinal dysfunction, rheumatism and raised blood sugar, blood lipids and blood pressure.
Patient-centred services
1) A dedicated telephone line for staff examination enquiries. 2) Examination instructions are issued in advance, and a dedicated person is assigned to coordinate the service and tailor the examination plan. 3) Packages can be designed to suit the employer's needs, such as cerebrovascular, hypertension, diabetes, endocrine and cancer screening packages. 4) Examination is organised in separate zones to protect examinees' privacy. 5) Free breakfast and milk are provided. 6) The examination card is valid for two years and can be used by several people and on several occasions within that period; the holder may choose Western-medicine examination items or the centre's own signature therapies. 7) Family members receive the same discount as the employer's staff. 8) People aged over 70 receive priority service, and dedicated services are arranged for special groups, the very elderly and those with limited mobility, with a nurse accompanying them throughout. 9) Because medical insurance cards cannot be used to pay for examination items, the centre arranges for a physician to add items through the outpatient system for examinees who need extra tests, so that the insurance card can be used. 10) Group reports are strictly sealed and delivered to the employer within seven working days, with a named contact and signature by both parties. 11) Serious findings are reported promptly, and a green channel is opened for specialist consultation. 12) Health lectures: after the examination the centre analyses the aggregated data, summarises the potential disease risks with the highest incidence among the employer's staff, identifies causes, drafts prevention and intervention plans and regularly sends a professional team to the employer to give talks, so that problems are detected and addressed as early as possible — a genuine one-stop service that benefits people without their having to leave their workplace.
