Introduction to the Second Inpatient Ward of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology
2022.11
The Second Inpatient Ward of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology was established in 2011. It is a specialized base for orthopedics and traumatology of the National Pharmacology Base, a national key specialty in orthopedics and traumatology, and a provincial-level key discipline in orthopedics and traumatology. The department currently has 7 doctors and 10 nurses. There are 60 beds currently in operation, and the department is equipped with various types of physiotherapy devices. Adhering to the traditional essence of Chinese medicine orthopedics and traumatology and combining it with the latest orthopedic theories and technologies from China and abroad, our department has developed a unique set of medical treatment methods integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine.
We specialize in manipulative and surgical treatment of fractures in all parts of the body, as well as needle-knife treatment of soft-tissue diseases. We have distinctive expertise in treating fractures of the tibial and fibular shafts, distal radius fractures, and ankle fractures with “combined plaster splint fixation.”
For elderly patients with femoral neck fractures or intertrochanteric femoral fractures who have serious underlying diseases and are unsuitable for surgery, conservative treatment is the main approach, including skeletal traction at the bedside, physiotherapy, and shock-wave therapy.
We provide staged treatment for cervical spondylosis and lumbar disc herniation. For patients with mild disc bulging or herniation, computer-controlled quantitative, sustained intermittent traction and manual reduction are used, which facilitate disc repositioning and help avoid ligament relaxation and vertebral instability caused by conventional continuous traction. Physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage, and symptomatic treatment with traditional Chinese and Western medicines are also combined, with good results.
For patients with lumbar disc herniation who, because of advanced age or other physical factors, cannot tolerate surgery or are unsuitable for surgery and have relatively severe disease, continuous epidural drug administration is used to effectively relieve their suffering.
For ischemic necrosis of the femoral head, injections of traditional Chinese medicine are administered into the joint cavity. In patients with mild femoral head necrosis, this can effectively relieve pain and ultimately achieve healing. For femoral head necrosis with collapse but a well-preserved joint space, it controls disease progression, delays artificial joint replacement, and effectively improves patients’ quality of life.
For knee osteoarthritis, traumatic arthritis of the knee, knee synovitis, loose bodies in the knee, meniscal injuries, ligament injuries, and other conditions, our department uses traditional Chinese medicine injections into the joint cavity. The clinical control rate for patients in the early and middle stages can reach over 98%.
Knee osteoarthritis can be treated with knee arthroscopy. After surgery, traditional Chinese medicine injections into the joint cavity are used, effectively controlling the condition, avoiding joint replacement, and reducing patients’ suffering and treatment costs.
Frozen shoulder: For patients with mild frozen shoulder, trigger-point block and needle-knife treatment are used, combined with physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage, and other treatments. The treatment takes effect quickly and has lasting efficacy. For patients with frozen shoulder accompanied by severe adhesions, one-time manual release under anesthesia is performed, resulting in less discomfort and good efficacy.
Ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatism, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoporosis: Using traditional Chinese medicine syndrome differentiation, we analyze each case according to its syndrome and prescribe targeted medication. Pure traditional Chinese medicine treats both the symptoms and the root cause, and systematic, comprehensive treatment avoids the bone-related adverse effects of long-term Western medicine use.
