Neurosurgery Department I
Brief department introduction: Neurosurgery Department I has 30 beds and 1 intensive care unit.
The annual outpatient volume is more than 500 people, the annual number of inpatients is nearly 1000, and the annual number of operations is more than 900. The department has CT, cranial Doppler, German Aesculap surgical instruments, powered craniotomy instruments, a ZEISS microscope, DSA and other high-end, cutting-edge equipment. At present, our department has long been proficient in performing complex neurosurgical operations such as resection of sellar-region tumors, sphenoid ridge meningiomas, parasagittal meningiomas, cerebellopontine angle tumors, fourth-ventricle tumors, and cerebral arteriovenous malformations. Over the past ten years, with the development of microsurgical neurosurgery, surgical techniques including intracranial aneurysm clipping, transsphenoidal pituitary tumor resection, and “keyhole surgery” for intracranial space-occupying lesions have also reached a new level. At the end of 2019, our department successfully performed the hospital’s first internal carotid artery endarterectomy. At the same time, through years of accumulated experience, our department has developed extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of craniocerebral trauma, standardized treatment of cerebral hemorrhage, and comprehensive management of critically ill neurosurgical patients.
Composition of medical and nursing staff: There are currently 6 doctors, including 1 chief physician, 1 associate chief physician, and 4 attending physicians. Those with doctoral degrees number 1, and those with master’s degrees number 5. There are also 30 nursing staff.
Medical specialties:
I. Microsurgical neurosurgery
This is the application of microsurgical techniques to neurosurgical operations. Optical microscopes or magnifying glasses and specially designed microsurgical instruments are used to perform precise and delicate surgical procedures, increasing surgical precision and reducing damage to brain tissue. Our department has performed the following operations.
1. Skull-base tumors: pituitary tumors, craniopharyngiomas, skull-base meningiomas, gliomas of the optic chiasm region, dermoid & epidermoid cysts, intracranial chordomas, acoustic neuromas, tumors of the jugular foramen region, medulloblastomas, hemangioblastomas, intracranial germ cell tumors, etc.
2. Intraventricular tumors, ependymomas, choroid plexus papillomas, intraventricular germ cell tumors, etc.
3. Cerebral convexity tumors, gliomas, parasagittal meningiomas, etc.
4. Vascular diseases: cavernous hemangiomas, hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage, intracranial aneurysm clipping, cerebral vascular malformation resection, etc.
II. Minimally invasive neurosurgery
Neuroendoscopic surgery is performed, including treatment of sellar-region tumors (pituitary tumors, craniopharyngiomas, meningiomas, Rathke’s cleft cysts), third-ventricle floor fenestration for the treatment of hydrocephalus, resection of ventricular tumors, treatment of hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage, etc. Fenestration of transparent septum cysts, intracranial lesion biopsy, removal of intracranial parasites, removal of intracranial foreign bodies, and keyhole resection of cerebral convexity cavernous hemangiomas are also continuously performed.
III. Functional neurosurgery
Microvascular decompression is performed to treat intractable trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm; percutaneous balloon compression of the trigeminal semilunar ganglion without an incision is performed to treat trigeminal neuralgia; surgery is performed to treat intractable post-traumatic epilepsy and temporal lobe epilepsy; DBS is used to treat Parkinson’s disease; and drug-block injections are used to treat facial nerve paralysis.
IV. Craniocerebral trauma treatment
Various intracranial hematoma evacuation procedures, removal of necrotic tissue from cerebral contusions and lacerations, three-dimensional reconstruction and digitally modeled cranioplasty for skull defects, autologous skull preservation and repair of skull defects, ventriculoperitoneal shunting for post-traumatic hydrocephalus, mild hypothermia and hyperbaric oxygen therapy for severe traumatic brain injury, etc. are performed.
V. Endovascular interventional treatment:
Embolization treatment for intracranial aneurysms, embolization treatment for arteriovenous malformations, acute intracranial vessel thrombectomy treatment, etc.
4. Honors: The department received the title of Advanced Party Branch in July 2014
February 2015 Title of Advanced Collective
2015 Advanced Collective in the Work of Professional Conduct Development
February 2016 Title of Advanced Youth League Organization
2016 Advanced Collective in the Work of Professional Conduct Development
2017 Title of Advanced Ward for Quality Nursing Service
2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, for 5 consecutive years, received the title of Advanced Department for Stroke Surgery
