Special Examinations Department
The Special Examinations Department was established in 1984 and includes cardiac electrophysiology, EEG and EMG sections. It offers a complete range of services. In addition to routine 12-lead ECG, vectorcardiography, 24-hour ambulatory ECG, 24-hour ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring, EEG, ambulatory EEG, TCD, EMG and ultrasound bone-density testing, it provides special tests including ventricular late potentials, automated arteriosclerosis detection, spectral ECG, heart-rate-variability analysis, intraesophageal ECG, transesophageal atrial pacing and stimulation. It provides high-quality service through meticulous and expert medical techniques. Through the efforts of all staff, it has become a distinctive department integrating medical care, teaching and research. It has 11 medical staff: 2 with senior titles, 6 with intermediate titles and 3 with junior titles. Department members currently serve as chair of the Zhejiang Hangzhou Medical Association Electrophysiology Branch; vice-chairs and members of national electrophysiology committees and working groups; members of the Taihai Medical Association Arrhythmia and ECG Committee; deputy director of the Zhejiang Hangzhou ECG Function Quality-Control Center and deputy head of the non-invasive ECG group of the Zhejiang Medical Association Electrophysiology and Pacing Branch; members of the Zhejiang Hangzhou Medical Association medical-appraisal expert pool; and editorial-board members and reviewers for Practical Journal of Electrocardiology, Journal of Electrocardiography, Bachu Medicine and Zhejiang Journal of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. In 2015 and 2018, it received the Young and Middle-aged Special Contribution Award and Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Award from the Chinese Dynamic Electrocardiography Committee. Staff have edited or co-edited more than 10 monographs, including Detailed Explanation of Modern Pacemaker Functions, Essentials of Pacemaker ECG: 100 Cases and Practical Quick Reference to ECG. They specialize in reporting and analyzing ECG scattergrams, pacemaker ECG and transesophageal cardiac electrophysiology. The department can diagnose ECG, EEG and EMG examinations for common and frequently occurring diseases; in addition to routine tests, it provides the listed special examinations. Its research focuses on the diagnosis of various cardiac diseases and arrhythmias, while also studying EEG and EMG. It has particular technical strengths in routine 12-lead ECG, 24-hour ambulatory ECG, pacemaker ECG, ECG scattergram technology, intraesophageal ECG, and transesophageal atrial pacing and stimulation.
