Gastroenterology
The Department of Gastroenterology was established at the beginning of 1998. After the unremitting efforts of two generations of practitioners of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, it laid a solid foundation for its development today. Since its establishment, it has consistently followed the path of integrating traditional Chinese and Western medicine, taken gastrointestinal motility disorders as its main area of focus, and was among the earliest in the province to carry out whole-digestive-tract motility testing and treatment. It currently has 5 chief physicians, 5 deputy chief physicians, 4 attending physicians, 1 person with a doctoral degree, and 15 people with master’s degrees. The discipline emphasizes discipline development and scientific and technological innovation. In particular, in functional dyspepsia, peptic ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, functional constipation, cirrhosis and its complications, it adopts an approach that gives equal weight to traditional Chinese and Western medicine and treats both diseases and symptoms, achieving good therapeutic results. In 2007, it was included by the Health Department of Zhejiang Province in Zhejiang Province’s key specialty construction project for integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. In 2018, it was included in Zhejiang Province’s “13th Five-Year Plan” key traditional Chinese medicine specialty. In 2020, it was included as a key cultivation discipline for traditional Chinese medicine spleen and stomach diseases in Hangzhou. In the basic and clinical research of functional gastrointestinal diseases such as functional dyspepsia and constipation, cirrhosis and its complications, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease NAFLD, it has conducted relatively in-depth innovative research and developed a series of compound traditional Chinese medicine preparations with definite clinical efficacy and partly elucidated mechanisms of action; the resulting achievements have already been or are currently being transferred into application. Within five years, a total of 16 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation, the Provincial Natural Science Foundation, key specialty and special-disease projects of the Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission, the Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission have been accepted or are under research. Related research findings have been published in SCI-indexed and domestic core journals in more than 30 papers, and multiple awards have been received, including the Zhejiang Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Innovation Award, the Hangzhou Medical and Health Science and Technology Innovation Award, and the Zhejiang Provincial Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Award.
