Clinical Testing and Experimental Center
The clinical laboratory center at Hangzhou Red Cross Hospital combines clinical testing, teaching and research. It has laboratories for routine and emergency testing, biochemistry, clinical immunology, microbiology, transfusion, tuberculosis, research and molecular diagnosis. Equipment includes Roche automated biochemistry and immunology lines, a bioMérieux automated microbial mass-spectrometry system, MGIT 960 mycobacterial culture, real-time quantitative PCR and GeneXpert rapid tuberculosis testing. The center offers more than 500 tests. Its tuberculosis laboratory provides rapid Mycobacterium tuberculosis culture and phenotypic susceptibility testing for first- and second-line drugs, identification and MIC-based phenotypic susceptibility testing of nontuberculous mycobacteria, tuberculosis and nontuberculous mycobacterial DNA tests, M. tuberculosis RNA tests and targeted sequencing of resistance genes. The hospital describes an established quality-control system and says the center is applying for ISO 15189 medical laboratory accreditation. As Hangzhou's clinical laboratory quality-control center, it develops related quality standards. Since 2021 the center reports leading more than 40 provincial or higher research projects, including one National Natural Science Foundation grant, one national major emerging infectious-disease program subproject and five provincial natural science grants. It reports approximately 50 SCI-indexed papers and two national invention patents. The team has 62 staff, including five doctorates and 14 with senior professional titles.
