Dermatology
Founded in 1979, it was the fourth independent dermatology department established in our city, following the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Hangzhou Third Hospital. Its routine work mainly involves the diagnosis and treatment of various skin diseases and sexually transmitted diseases; it also provides a variety of dermatological cosmetic treatments, including traditional Chinese medical cosmetology and skin care.
The department enjoys a high level of recognition both nationally and within Zhejiang Province. It currently has two associate chief physicians and one attending physician. They serve respectively as members of the Medical Cosmetology Branch of the Hangzhou Medical Association; a member of the Zhejiang Branch of the Chinese Society of Dermatology and Venereology; a member of the Medical Aesthetics and Cosmetology Branch of the Zhejiang Medical Association; and a member of the Dermatology Branch of the Zhejiang Association of Chinese Medicine.
The department adheres to an integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach. It has achieved good results not only in common and frequently occurring diseases, but also made breakthroughs in the treatment of certain difficult and complicated diseases. It has developed distinctive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of various types of hair loss, acne, psoriasis, and vasculitis, and has developed a variety of effective traditional Chinese medicinal preparations with distinctive characteristics. In addition to conventional drug therapy, the department also focuses on introducing new diagnostic and treatment technologies. In the 1980s, it was the first in our city to introduce carbon dioxide laser treatment for various skin growths. In the 1990s, it was again the first to introduce ultrapulsed carbon dioxide laser and Nd:YAG laser for dermatological cosmetic treatment. In 2007, it was among the earliest institutions in the city to introduce Germany's “Minscreen” allergen testing for the detection of various allergens. In 2010, it was the first to introduce semiconductor laser therapy for postherpetic neuralgia.
Research focus of the department: The integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment of various hair disorders, acne, and other conditions is a clinical specialty of our department and is likewise the direction of our future research.
