Laboratory Medicine
The Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine of Hangzhou 1st People's Hospital, affiliated with Westlake University School of Medicine, was established in 1957, and the current Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine was formed through the merger of the former Laboratory Department and Central Laboratory. Through the efforts of several generations, the department has developed from simple tests traditionally centered on the “3 major routine tests” into a “Department of Medical Laboratory Medicine” integrating 5 subspecialties: clinical biochemistry, clinical basic laboratory medicine (including hematology, body fluid analysis, and flow cytometry), clinical immunology, clinical molecular genetics and metabolism (including molecular diagnostics, genetics, and metabolism), and clinical microbiology (including routine pathogens and NGS). In 2012, our department was included in the 1st batch of key disciplines jointly established by the province and city and became a Class 1 key discipline in Hangzhou. In 2014, it was awarded the title of Zhejiang Provincial Youth Civilization Unit; in 2016, it passed laboratory accreditation by the China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment; and in 2023, multiple subspecialties were recognized as Zhejiang Provincial Demonstration Laboratories. Our department is a standardized residency training base for medical laboratory medicine in Zhejiang Province and an affiliated institution of the Hangzhou Clinical Laboratory Quality Control Center.
