Anaesthesiology

The Department of Anesthesiology (Pain) was established as an independent department in August 1978 and is the hospital’s Center for Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. The department’s areas of work include surgical anesthesia, pain diagnosis and treatment (pain outpatient clinic, pain ward), pre-anesthesia preparation, postoperative recovery (PACU), comfort-oriented medical care (painless endoscopy, painless induced abortion, postoperative analgesia, labor analgesia, treatment of pain caused by advanced cancer, etc.), the Anesthesiology Teaching and Research Unit, laboratories, etc. The discipline of anesthesiology (anesthesiology and pain medicine) has consistently followed the principle “For surgery to develop, anesthesia must lead the way” and places emphasis on developing and enhancing clinical capabilities; it has made significant progress in anesthesia and rescue of critically ill patients, anesthesia for patients of all age groups, anesthesia outside the operating room and comfort-oriented medical care, diagnosis and treatment of complex and intractable pain, anesthetic therapeutics, and other areas. The discipline was approved by the Hangzhou Municipal Health Commission as a key medical discipline for three consecutive rounds (2014-2016, 2016-2019, 2020-2024). Following three rounds of development, the discipline has steadily improved in medical care, teaching, research, talent development, and other areas, with notable achievements in the development of the key discipline. Its overall strength ranks among the best in the province and first among municipal hospitals.
