Nephrology

The department is primarily dedicated to clinical research in blood purification and primary and secondary kidney diseases. It began providing peritoneal dialysis in 1985 and hemodialysis in 1989. It has achieved more than 10 clinical and research accomplishments, including one Third Prize of the Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, 2 First Prizes of the Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government Science and Technology Progress Award, multiple Second and Third Prizes of the Zhejiang Medical and Health Science and Technology Innovation Awards, and multiple First Prizes of the Hangzhou Clinical Medical Achievement Award. It is one of the principal member institutions of the Zhejiang Province and Hangzhou Hemodialysis Quality Control Centers and is a key medical specialty in Hangzhou. It currently has 62 beds, 4 chief physicians, and 2 deputy chief physicians. There are 2 staff members with doctoral degrees, 7 with master’s degrees, and 2 master’s supervisors at Nanjing Medical University.

The specialty outpatient clinic is open Monday through Friday. 【Clinical Services】 Primary glomerulonephritis, urinary tract infection/hypertension, diabetic renal injury, renal injury due to systemic lupus erythematosus and other immune and connective-tissue diseases/renal disease complicating pregnancy and childbirth/various drug and food poisonings/metabolic syndrome, and rescue of patients with multiple-organ failure. Head of the specialty: Wang Ming, chief physician, deputy to the National People’s Congress, vice-chair of the Zhejiang Society of Nephrology, the Zhejiang Society of Bioengineering, and the Blood Purification Quality Control Center, chair of the Hangzhou Society of Nephrology, and editorial board member of the Chinese edition of AJKD. Main work and research experience: On the basis of conventional hemodialysis, he was among the earliest in the province to successively introduce a variety of treatment programs, including plasma exchange, hemofiltration dialysis, hemoperfusion, bedside hemofiltration, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and ascitic-fluid reinfusion; he also successfully combined multiple blood-purification modalities in the rescue and treatment of fatal drug allergies and toxic-substance poisoning; severe pathological obstetric conditions; acute respiratory distress syndrome in adults; adjunctive treatment after pediatric cardiothoracic surgery; acute severe pancreatitis; and various critically ill patients, including those with multiple-organ dysfunction, among others. He led 2 projects of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology and multiple research projects at the departmental and bureau level.
