Geriatric Medicine

The Department of Geriatric Medicine is a key discipline being cultivated by Hangzhou, a national clinical trial base for drugs and medical devices, a national training base for geriatric medicine professionals, and a training base for specialist geriatric nursing nurses in Zhejiang Province; it is also the affiliated unit of the Hangzhou Geriatric Health (integrated medical and elderly care) quality-control center. The department has 81 beds and a well-structured academic team in terms of age and professional rank, comprising 24 physicians, 4 full-time research staff, and 34 nurses, including 13 doctors (4 postdoctoral fellows) and 16 master’s degree holders. It currently undertakes multiple clinical drug and device research projects, the National Natural Science Foundation youth project, Zhejiang key research and development projects (the Pioneer Plan), Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation projects, departmental- and bureau-level research projects, and education-reform projects of the national Ministry of Education and the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education. From 2000 to 2003, it published more than 30 academic papers, including 19 SCI papers and 5 TOP-journal papers, applied for more than 10 utility-model patents, developed intelligent comprehensive geriatric assessment software, and obtained 1 software copyright.
