Adult Traditional Chinese Medicine Department
Adult Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine To fully leverage the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in the field of women’s and children’s health and promote integrated services combining maternal and child healthcare with traditional Chinese medicine, in 2008 the Municipal Women’s and Children’s Medical Center established the Adult Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine on the basis of its existing Department of Traditional Chinese Gynecology, gradually expanding its scope from traditional Chinese gynecology to general adult traditional Chinese medicine. Currently, the specialty has 11 traditional Chinese medicine specialists and 4 nurses, including 7 staff members with senior professional titles; 10 have postgraduate education at master’s level or above. The annual outpatient volume is nearly 60,000 visits, and annual treatments using appropriate traditional Chinese medicine techniques are nearly 20,000. The current subspecialty clinics include: Menstrual Disorders and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Clinic, Adolescent Menstrual Disorders Clinic, Menopause Specialty Clinic, Traditional Chinese Medicine Infertility Clinic, Preconception and Pregnancy Preparation Specialty, Postpartum Rehabilitation Clinic, Adult Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment Clinic, and others. The specialty emphasizes “integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine,” strengthens joint diagnosis and treatment with Western gynecology, and provides whole-life-cycle diagnosis, healthcare, and treatment services for women from adolescence through middle and old age. In particular, while patients with infertility and polycystic ovary syndrome take Western medicines to regulate menstruation and promote ovulation, syndrome-differentiated internal and external treatments are provided to adjust the menstrual cycle of women of reproductive age, promote ovulation, and improve the success rate of conception. In cooperation with the gynecology menopause specialty, constitution-based syndrome differentiation and regulation are provided for women in the menopausal transition and after menopause, improving related symptoms in middle-aged and older women and enhancing their quality of life. The specialty makes full use of the unique advantages of traditional Chinese medicine techniques and carries out a series of distinctive techniques, including traditional acupuncture, Huangdi Inner Acupuncture, press needles, Tianjiu, buccal acupuncture, thread embedding, salt-pack thermotherapy, Ziwu Liuzhu low-frequency therapy, traditional Chinese medicine directional transdermal drug delivery therapy, traditional Chinese medicine herbal-packet washing preparations, and others. In addition, the specialty has strengthened multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment for obstetric and gynecological patients and actively applies traditional Chinese medicine techniques to various rehabilitation physiotherapy procedures after childbirth and after gynecological surgery. In 2020, in cooperation with the Department of Gynecology, it was approved as one of the second batch of national characteristic menopause healthcare specialties by the National Health Commission and as a pilot institution for capacity building in gynecological endocrine diagnosis and treatment by the National Health Commission.
