At the same time, the department established the Ivy Stroke Prevention and Treatment Alliance, contributing to stroke prevention and treatment in primary-level hospitals. The department organizes an interventional thrombectomy training course every year, contributing to the improvement of neurointerventional technical proficiency in primary-level hospitals. In 2023, the Neuromedicine Center of Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital was approved as the Neurointervention Fellowship and Training Base of the National Health Commission Center for Capacity Building and Continuing Education and can accept large numbers of visiting neurointerventional fellows and trainees. Meanwhile, with the help of its telemedicine system, the Department of Neurology connects with the team led by Academician Ji Xunming at the Beijing Institute for Brain Disorders and with Beijing Tiantan Hospital, providing remote outpatient and consultation services so that patients can consult renowned Beijing physicians without leaving home. Qu Hongying, President of Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital, and Academician Ji Xunming of the Beijing Institute for Brain Disorders signed a cooperation agreement to jointly establish the Collaborative Innovation Center for Major Brain Diseases. The Stroke Center has distinctive strengths in emergency stroke care: 1. The acute stroke fast-track pathway is characterized by speed and precision. The median door-to-needle time (DNT) remains stable at 22 minutes, and one-stop head-and-neck CTA combined with head CTP provides rapid imaging in 8 minutes, providing precise guidance for subsequent bridging therapy with mechanical thrombectomy or endovascular perfusion. 2. The Stroke Center has comprehensive technical capabilities, including intravenous thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy for acute cerebral infarction, intracranial and extracranial arterial angioplasty, recanalization of chronically occluded vessels, embolization of intracranial aneurysms, embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations and dural arteriovenous fistulas, embolization of carotid-cavernous fistulas, embolization of spinal arteriovenous malformations, carotid endarterectomy, hematoma evacuation and minimally invasive drainage for cerebral hemorrhage, intraoperative Doppler ultrasound vascular monitoring, artificial-intelligence-assisted technologies, and more. It can perform various hybrid procedures, mainly for complex cerebrospinal vascular diseases, such as giant intracranial aneurysms, cerebral arteriovenous malformations, and spinal vascular malformations. 3. The Stroke Center’s information-based quality-control infrastructure is at the forefront in Guangdong Province. 4. It has established regional influence: in 2019, it was approved as the Neurointervention Training Base of the Interventional Neurology Professional Committee of the Guangdong Clinical Medicine Association; in 2022, it was approved as a National Neurointervention Construction Center; in 2023, the Neuromedicine Center of Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital was approved as the Neurointervention Fellowship and Training Base of the National Health Commission Center for Capacity Building and Continuing Education and can accept large numbers of interventional fellows and trainees every year. It regularly holds the Standardized Training Course for Interventional Neurology Specialists of the Neurointervention Special Committee of the Neurology Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the annual academic meeting of the Interventional Neurology Special Committee of the Guangdong Clinical Medicine Association. 5. It is equipped with South China’s first emergency mobile CT vehicle. Its neurointerventional capabilities are comprehensive and are among the most advanced in China, particularly in ultra-early intra-arterial thrombolysis, thrombectomy, and intravenous–intra-arterial bridging thrombectomy therapy for cerebral infarction.
