Radiology
The Department of Radiology is one of the digital imaging diagnostic departments integrating medical care, teaching, scientific research, and a remote imaging diagnosis center. It possesses 11 large digital X-ray machines (DR), including 1 Japanese Shimadzu digital multifunctional gastrointestinal X-ray machine, 1 Italian mammography molybdenum-target DR X-ray machine, and 5 mobile DR units. An "Internet-based Remote Imaging Center" has been established, putting the department at the forefront within the province and at the same level as major hospitals nationwide. The department currently has 25 professional medical, technical, and nursing personnel, including 8 with senior professional titles and 7 with intermediate professional titles. They are divided into five specialty groups: respiratory, digestive, skeletal, head and neck, and mammography. The specialty groups work closely together to complete X-ray diagnosis of common and frequently occurring diseases. More than 120,000 X-ray examinations and diagnoses are completed annually, along with more than 3,000 mammography molybdenum-target DR examinations and more than 2,000 special examinations, such as panoramic radiographs and DR tomosynthesis images. The overall positive rate is above 75%, and the diagnostic accuracy rate is above 95%. The excellent-image rate, positive rate, and diagnostic accuracy rate all meet or exceed the standards of national Class III Grade A hospitals, providing excellent imaging support for the hospital’s high-level clinical diagnosis and treatment. In addition to completing the hospital’s internal X-ray diagnostic tasks, the Department of Radiology also concentrates its efforts on carrying out "Assistance to and Implementation in Primary Care Based on Internet-Based Remote Medical Imaging Diagnosis" (a project approved for the promotion and application of new technologies and new projects by the Provincial Health Commission). With the assistance of modern information technology, it provides support to more than 40 primary-level institutions inside and outside the province, completing more than 30,000 remote consultations, diagnoses, and teaching sessions for difficult and complicated diseases each year, effectively alleviating the difficulty experienced by primary-level residents in seeking medical care; meanwhile, it assists in carrying out the "Guangzhou Occupational Health Science and Technology Collaborative Innovation Center—Research and Practice on the Integration of Medical Treatment and Disease Prevention for the Early Screening, Treatment, and Rehabilitation of Pneumoconiosis," providing effective treatment and management for workers’ health and making positive contributions to promoting social health and stability. In 2023, in response to the government’s call, the Department of Radiology explored and practiced an Internet plus smart healthcare foreign-aid model under the background of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, supporting medical development in Ghana, Africa, and promoting friendly exchanges between the people of China and Africa. In 2003, during Guangdong Province’s battle against SARS, all department staff worked in unity and completed the X-ray examination and diagnosis tasks assigned to our hospital for more than 280 patients with infectious atypical pneumonia. The department was awarded the titles of Advanced Collective in Guangdong Province’s Fight Against SARS and Model Unit in Guangzhou’s Fight Against SARS. Many individuals were recognized as meritorious personnel in Guangdong Province’s fight against SARS, including 1 recipient of first-class merit, 2 recipients of second-class merit, and 3 recipients of third-class merit. The Department of Radiology has made outstanding contributions to research on the medical imaging diagnosis of rare and uncommon diseases, having successively diagnosed and reported multiple cases of rare and uncommon diseases in China and abroad. In 2006, its report of the first domestic case of "Congenital Keratitis. Deafness. Ichthyosis Syndrome" was broadcast by the Science and Education Channel of China Central Television. Through long-term clinical work, the department has conducted in-depth research on the diagnosis of rare and uncommon diseases, playing a significant role in improving the level of clinical diagnosis and treatment. In recent years, the Department of Radiology has fully developed research on digital medical imaging diagnosis and entered a period of rapid development. The department has achieved fully digital processing, diagnosis, storage, transmission, and online dynamic quality management of medical imaging, and in particular, has established an "Internet-based Remote Medical Imaging Diagnosis Center," effectively supporting and improving the imaging capabilities of primary-level hospital physicians and alleviating the difficulty experienced by residents in seeking medical care. At the same time, with the assistance of modern 5G information technology, it assists in carrying out the "Guangzhou Occupational Health Science and Technology Collaborative Innovation Center—Research and Practice on the Integration of Medical Treatment and Disease Prevention for the Early Screening, Treatment, and Rehabilitation of Pneumoconiosis," safeguarding workers’ health; in 2023, in response to the government’s call, the Department of Radiology explored and practiced an Internet plus smart healthcare foreign-aid model under the background of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, supporting medical development in Ghana, Africa, and promoting friendly exchanges between the people of China and Africa. Wholeheartedly providing high-quality services for patients and the injured is the mission of the Department of Radiology!
