Emergency Department

The Emergency Medicine Department of Guangdong Second People’s Hospital was founded in 1997 and is a key clinical specialty. Its area is about 1500 m². It includes emergency, resuscitation, observation and inpatient areas. Resuscitation has 2 beds and ventilators, monitors, bedside biochemical analysis, electric chest compression, gastric lavage, defibrillation, rapid glucose testing, ECG, syringe and micro-infusion pumps. Observation has 10 beds; the emergency ward has 2 monitored and 10 ordinary beds; the infusion room has 80 chairs. A green channel integrates registration, payment, pharmacy, laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, injection, treatment, dressing changes and emergency surgery. The department has over 60 staff, 18 doctors, 43 nurses and 7 advanced ambulances, including 2 first-line 120 ambulances operating 24 hours. During the 2003 SARS outbreak no staff became infected.
