Introduction to the Department of Pathology. The Department of Pathology of Guangdong Second People's Hospital originated as the Department of Pathology of Guangdong 177 Hospital. As the hospital's specialty development has continued and its overall strength has grown, the Department of Pathology has developed alongside the hospital and is currently making an all-out push to become a high-level hospital pathology department. It currently has 20 employees on the roster, including a total of 8 professional and technical personnel with senior professional titles and 10 personnel with master's degrees or higher. The department is well equipped, with advanced specialized equipment including a fully automatic tissue dehydrator, embedding machine, microtome, fully automatic slide stainer, and immunohistochemical staining instrument. The department continuously optimizes its operating procedures and emphasizes quality control. Various fully automatic specimen-preparation and staining instruments have replaced traditional manual operations, making test results more stable and quality more reliable; results in all previous provincial- and national-level quality-control assessments have been excellent. In coordination with the development of the hospital's clinical disciplines, it focuses on building strong pathology specialties, such as gynecologic cervical cytology, gastrointestinal pathology, hematopathology, thyroid pathology, breast pathology, and others. The pathology level of multiple specialties has consistently ranked among the best in the province. In 2017, the department received the Guangdong Pathology Industry Contribution Award presented by the Guangdong Physicians Association. As a national clinical pathology physician training base, it began enrolling trainees in 2016. Two residents from the 2019 cohort participated at the national level and achieved excellent results; Dr. He Baihao ranked in the top 10%. In May 2022, Dr. Li Danqing participated in the First Skills Showcase for Standardized Training Physicians and won third prize. The department's trainees have solid foundations and broad knowledge. At the beginning of 2022, the department recruited Dr. Peng Hui, a senior researcher, as a full-time researcher. He led the department's young medical and technical personnel in further enhancing their research capabilities, with medical care, teaching, and the department—the three driving forces—advancing together. “Pathology is the foundation of medicine.” The Department of Pathology performs routine biopsy pathological diagnosis, intraoperative frozen-section rapid pathological diagnosis, cytopathological diagnosis, fetal autopsy, fully automated immunohistochemical testing, molecular pathology testing, pathological consultations, and other services, providing comprehensive pathology services for all clinical departments of the hospital.
