Nuclear Medicine
The Department of Nuclear Medicine of Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital was established in 2007. In 2022, it was approved as a department under the National Key Clinical Specialty Construction Program. It is a modern department integrating clinical care, teaching, and research. The department is located on B2 of Building 3 and occupies approximately 2000m2. Its overall plan comprises three major sections: the PET imaging diagnostic center, the radiopharmaceutical preparation center, and the radionuclide therapy ward. The Department of Nuclear Medicine is equipped with a high-end digital light-guided PET/CT (United Imaging uMI 780), a cyclotron for positron radiopharmaceuticals (Sumitomo HM-12SPC), a GE Infinia SPECT imaging system, a dual-energy X-ray bone densitometer, a thyroid function analyzer, and other equipment. The radionuclide therapy ward has 5 rooms and 5 beds. At present, the department routinely performs more than 20 types of SPECT imaging examinations, including whole-body bone scans, thyroid scintigraphy, dynamic renal scintigraphy, and myocardial perfusion SPECT. Whole-body PET/CT imaging can accurately diagnose the primary and metastatic lesions of malignant tumors and has unique clinical value in differentiating benign from malignant tumors, clinical staging, treatment response assessment, and monitoring recurrence and metastasis. PET/CT also has important value in localizing epileptic foci and diagnosing central neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.). In radionuclide therapy, the department has fully implemented 131I treatment for hyperthyroidism and differentiated thyroid carcinoma, as well as 32P applicator treatment for cutaneous hemangiomas and scar repair; in the future, it plans to introduce treatments with 177Lu and other new radionuclides. The department has a highly skilled and well-qualified professional medical, technical, and nursing team. It currently has 16 staff members, including 6 physicians, 3 technologists, 5 nurses, 1 chemist, and 1 clerk; among them are 2 holders of doctoral degrees, 3 holders of master’s degrees, and 1 doctoral supervisor. It has long undertaken clinical teaching for Southern Medical University, the School of Medicine of Jinan University, and other institutions, and carries out multiple national-, provincial-, and ministerial-level research projects. In 2018 and 2019, it received one second prize each in the Guangdong Medical Science and Technology Award and the Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award, respectively. To date, the department has published more than 50 SCI articles. Telephone: 020-89168229 Address: B2 of Building 3.
