Tel.: 020-89168083 Address: Outpatient Department: 3rd floor, Building No. 1; Inpatient Department: 1st and 2nd floors, Building No. 5 Department Introduction The Department of Infectious Diseases integrates clinical care, teaching, and research. It is a key clinical specialty of Guangdong Province. It currently has more than 30 beds and 20 medical and nursing staff members, including 4 senior technical professionals, 5 intermediate technical professionals, 1 medical doctor, and 4 medical masters. The department director is Wu Maosheng, chief physician and liver disease specialist. He is Deputy Chair of the Infectious Diseases Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association, Deputy Chair of the Infectious Diseases Branch of the Guangdong Medical Doctors Association, and Deputy Chair of the Liver Disease Professional Committee of the Guangdong Health Care Association. He graduated from Sun Yat-sen Medical University (six-year program) and formerly served as Director of the Department of Liver Diseases at Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital. He previously went to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore for exchange and study. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of long-term fever of unknown origin, combined antiviral therapy for chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C, intervention for recurrent exacerbations of chronic liver disease, and blocking the three-step progression of hepatitis–cirrhosis–liver cancer. Our department’s medical specialties: (1) We provide consultations 24 hours a day and mainly admit patients with infectious diseases such as viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, nonalcoholic liver disease, post-hepatitis cirrhosis, autoimmune liver disease, liver cancer, seasonal infectious diseases, and fever of unknown origin. (2) Standardized and individualized antiviral treatment for viral hepatitis is a distinctive strength of our department. In particular, individualized interferon treatment for chronic hepatitis B has a high rate of virological seroconversion (commonly known as conversion from “big three positives” to “small three positives”). Optimized treatment and roadmap measures are adopted to significantly improve the efficacy of nucleoside drugs against hepatitis B virus and reduce the incidence of drug resistance and mutations. The use of oral direct-acting antiviral agents (DAAs) for hepatitis C, or interferon combined with ribavirin for chronic hepatitis C, has also achieved excellent clinical cure rates. (3) We have extensive clinical experience in the treatment and management of severe liver diseases, including decompensated cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatic encephalopathy, ruptured bleeding from esophageal and gastric fundal varices, and hepatorenal syndrome, especially in blocking the three-step progression of hepatitis–cirrhosis–liver cancer. We have unique diagnostic and treatment approaches for the early diagnosis of cirrhosis, liver failure, and hepatic encephalopathy. We provide comprehensive treatments including individualized antiviral treatment for hepatitis, anti-fibrotic treatment, artificial liver treatment, traditional Chinese medicine and integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment, radiological interventional treatment, and radiofrequency ablation; the efficacy has been recognized by a large number of patients. We persist in providing long-term, individualized nutritional support and intestinal microbiota regulation therapy for patients with end-stage liver disease, improving the intestinal microenvironment, significantly improving patients’ quality of life, and prolonging survival. (4) For liver diseases of unknown etiology, especially autoimmune liver disease, whose incidence has increased significantly in recent years, our department actively explores and has proposed a series of new diagnostic and treatment approaches. (5) Fever caused by various etiologies, especially long-term fever of unknown origin, including infectious diseases such as influenza, dengue fever, measles, epidemic mumps, scarlet fever, scrub typhus, chickenpox, typhoid fever, and epidemic hemorrhagic fever. (6) Our department has established close professional cooperation with many domestic medical schools and hospitals, including Sun Yat-sen University and Southern Medical University, as well as the National University of Singapore School of Medicine (NUH) and Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore. We conduct research on chronic hepatitis B, blocking the three-step progression of hepatitis–cirrhosis–liver cancer, and individualized treatment of chronic hepatitis C, and have achieved encouraging results. Our department has a strong nursing team. The head nurse, Zhou Jianqun, is a committee member of the Infection Control Nurses Branch of the Guangdong Nurses Association, a national psychological counselor, and a five-star nurse. She previously went to Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University in Shanghai and Guangzhou Eighth People’s Hospital for further training and study, and leads the team in safeguarding your care. At present, there is 1 deputy chief nurse, 2 education nurses, 2 nurses in charge, 5 nurses, and 6 assistant nurses. We emphasize talent development and standardize nursing practice. We adhere to a people-oriented management philosophy and a service philosophy that gives equal importance to safety and quality, providing patients with high-quality comprehensive nursing services.
