Department of Laboratory Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine integrates medical care, teaching, research and emergency laboratory testing. It is the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of POCT (Enterprise), a Guangdong provincial standardized residency training base, a master's degree training site for Southern Medical University, Jinan University and many other institutions, and a postdoctoral workstation of Jinan University. It has 2 master's supervisors, 2 Outstanding Young Medical Talents of Guangdong Province and 2 specially appointed professors. There are 50 professional technical staff, including 22 with senior professional titles and 15 with intermediate titles. It comprises the Clinical Basic Testing Laboratory, Biochemistry Laboratory, Immunology Laboratory, Microbiology Laboratory and Molecular Genetic Testing Laboratory, and possesses large equipment such as fully automated hematology lines, fully automated urinalysis lines, fully automated chemistry-immunoassay lines, flow cytometers, mass spectrometers and high-throughput sequencers, offering more than 500 test items. Guided by the principle of 'precision, accuracy, efficiency and quality', with the philosophy of 'surviving on quality and developing through management' and the mission of 'serving patients above all', it provides accurate and high-quality laboratory services around the clock, 24 hours a day. In recent years, it has led and participated in more than 30 projects including grants from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Health Commission, and provincial and municipal research funds; it has won more than 10 awards including the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Award and military science and technology progress achievement awards; it has published more than 30 SCI-indexed papers in journals such as Biosens & Bioelectron, Acta Pharm Sin B and J Nanobiotechnology; it has served as editor-in-chief or contributing editor of 9 textbooks and monographs such as 'Emergency Laboratory Medicine', 'Clinical Molecular Diagnostics' and 'Comprehensive Guide to Clinical Laboratory Equipment (Point-of-Care Testing)'; and its staff hold more than 20 positions including vice chairman of the Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) Branch of the China Association for Medical Devices Industry, vice president of the Application Evaluation Branch of the China Association of Medical Equipment, and posts in provincial-level academic societies.
