Dentistry
Department introduction: The Department of Stomatology includes specialist groups in oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, orthodontics, and other fields. We have eight comprehensive treatment units and a range of professional technical personnel, with a relatively complete scope of clinical services. Some advanced research achievements have become routine methods of clinical diagnosis and treatment. The department currently has two deputy chief physicians, four attending physicians, one resident physician, one nurse in charge, and two nurses. Among them are two specialist prosthodontists, two deputy chief physicians in oral and maxillofacial surgery and oral medicine, and two staff members with master’s degrees. We have many four-hole high-speed dental handpieces with anti-retraction systems, American-imported professional handpiece sterilizers, and strictly implement one patient, one handpiece. We are also equipped with high-end digital dental X-ray machines, enabling computerized network management of medical images and clinical records. This has improved work quality and the preservation and organization of medical and research materials. Our four-handed dental assisting system makes medical and nursing work more standardized, systematizes initial and follow-up visits in the dental department, reduces patients’ waiting time, facilitates treatment, and improves work efficiency. In recent years, the department has achieved a number of research results, undertaken research projects, and published several scientific papers every year in domestic and international journals. Today, the Department of Stomatology of Guangdong Second Provincial People’s Hospital is vigorous and united, with strong technical expertise, advanced equipment, and a comprehensive range of medical services. We will serve patients with first-class technology, service, and equipment, ensuring a comfortable care environment and high-quality dental treatment. The hospital’s Department of Stomatology also regularly works with communities to conduct oral-health clinics and free consultations at the grassroots level. Introduction to the Oral Surgery Specialist Group: Because oral and maxillofacial diseases are primarily treated surgically, large general hospitals have unique resource advantages, with strong internal medicine, surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and other specialties as support, as well as assistance from anesthesiology, laboratory medicine, and other departments. These resources are not available in other specialty hospitals. Therefore, our department has long performed large and complex oral and maxillofacial operations. We have achieved substantial results in the following areas: (1) Surgical treatment of malignant tumors of the oral cavity, maxillofacial region, head, and neck. Functional surgery improves the survival rate of tumor patients and their quality of life after surgery. We have unique experience in the comprehensive treatment of oral cancer. (2) Surgical treatment of various benign tumors and hemangiomas of the head, neck, and maxillofacial region. (3) Reconstruction of acquired and congenital maxillofacial deformities. We provide sequential treatment for cleft lip and palate, including cleft-lip repair, cleft-palate repair, velopharyngoplasty, alveolar cleft repair, orthognathic surgery, orthodontic treatment, correction of nasal deformities, speech training, and psychological counseling. These treatments achieve good restoration of appearance and function. (4) Treatment of complex maxillofacial fractures caused by traffic accidents or other reasons. (5) Temporomandibular joint diseases. (6) Diagnosis and treatment of salivary-gland diseases. (7) Diagnosis and treatment of head and neck pain. Introduction to the Oral Medicine Specialist Group: The group mainly includes endodontics, periodontology, oral mucosal disease, pediatric dentistry, and other services. Endodontics: root canal treatment for pulpitis, apical periodontitis, traumatic teeth, cracked teeth, and other conditions caused by various reasons. Anterior tooth esthetics: mild tetracycline staining and fluorosis can be treated by removing part of the tooth surface and restoring it with special anterior-tooth resin, or by using porcelain crowns to improve the appearance of the anterior teeth. Oral mucosal disease: plaques, ulcers, erosions, blisters, and color changes of various oral mucosae. Periodontology: gingivitis (gingival bleeding) and periodontitis can be relieved through thorough supragingival and subgingival ultrasonic scaling combined with targeted etiological and drug treatment; surgery may be added when necessary. Pediatric dentistry: caries of primary teeth, periapical disease, malformed teeth, and consultation regarding replacement of primary and permanent teeth. Preventive dentistry: regular oral examinations, preventive treatment of various oral diseases, and oral-hygiene education. Introduction to the Prosthodontics Specialist Group: The prosthodontics group has long provided restoration of various dentures, including gold-porcelain crowns, titanium-metal porcelain crowns, nickel-chromium alloy porcelain crowns, all-ceramic crowns, porcelain veneers, implant-supported dentures, zirconia restorations, precision-attachment dentures, invisible dentures (flexible dentures), removable partial dentures and complete dentures with plastic or metal bases, metal bridges, post-and-core crowns, inlays, and various maxillofacial prostheses. These treatments effectively address missing teeth, irregular dentition, dental deformities, tooth discoloration, enamel hypoplasia, temporomandibular joint pain, and maxillofacial defects. Introduction to Orthodontics: Orthodontics is commonly called straightening or bracing the teeth. Orthodontic treatment can align irregular teeth. Our orthodontic specialty began fixed orthodontic treatment as early as 1990. Treatment includes preventive, interceptive, and functional correction of various malocclusions in children; fixed correction of various adult malocclusions; orthognathic surgical correction; and correction of temporomandibular joint disorders.
