Department Introduction

This department is a key department targeted for development by the hospital. The department director, Li Yuhui, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences. From 1997-2005, he served as director of the Cardiac Care Unit of the Department of Cardiology at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital (Cardiac Research Institute). He is a council member of the Guangdong Society of Interventional Cardiology, a standing committee member of the Expert Committee on Cardiovascular Medications of the Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association, and a committee member of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association. He specializes in diagnosis and treatment by cardiac catheterization, particularly interventional treatment of coronary heart disease and resuscitation of critically ill patients.

In recent years, the department has rapidly expanded its capabilities in interventional treatment of coronary heart disease, including stent implantation, catheter radiofrequency ablation, and pacemaker implantation. Interventional treatment of valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease, interventional treatment of aortic aneurysm or aortic dissection, inferior vena cava filter implantation, and intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation have also grown rapidly, enabling large numbers of critically ill patients or patients with complex conditions to receive appropriate and effective treatment.

The Department of Cardiology provides a range of ancillary examinations, including dynamic electrocardiography, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, exercise treadmill testing, transesophageal electrophysiology, and intracardiac electrophysiology. It also has a modern intensive care unit (CCU), an advanced intra-aortic balloon pump, and emergency equipment such as central monitoring systems, ventilators, and defibrillators. In addition, advanced medical equipment, including a high-end Philips digital large flat-panel cardiovascular angiography system (DSA) and multichannel electrophysiology systems, provides strong technical support for interventional treatment of heart disease.

The department currently operates a green channel for emergency interventional treatment of acute myocardial infarction (Department of Cardiology: 89168082; Emergency Department: 89168120). It follows a people-oriented and patient-centered approach, and patients may freely choose their medical team. Combining excellent technical expertise with a high-quality service attitude provides greater protection for the health of the people.

Li Yuhui, academic leader and department director, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences. He currently serves as a council member of the Guangdong Society of Interventional Cardiology; a standing committee member of the Expert Committee on Cardiovascular Medications of the Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association; a committee member of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Guangdong Medical Association; and a committee member of the Guangdong Association of Senior Professors.

Director Li Yuhui has been engaged in interventional treatment of coronary heart disease for nearly 20 years. From 1987 to 2005, he worked in the Department of Cardiology of Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital (Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases) and served as director of the department’s Cardiac Care Unit for 10 years. He was one of the early experts in our province to carry out interventional treatment of cardiovascular disease. In 1998, his research project, “Clinical Application of Intracoronary Stent Implantation,” received the first prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Medicine and Health of Guangdong Province. He has extensive clinical experience in the resuscitation of patients with critical and life-threatening cardiovascular diseases.

In 2006, he transferred to our hospital to serve as director of the Department of Cardiology and took the lead in initiating interventional treatment of cardiovascular disease at our hospital. His research projects, including interventional treatment of complex coronary lesions; clinical application of intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation in patients with high-risk cardiovascular disease; interventional diagnosis and treatment of renal artery stenosis complicated by cardiovascular disease; treatment of unprotected left main coronary artery stenosis with drug-eluting stents; and interventional treatment of coronary disease in complex clinical situations, among others, received the first, second, and third prizes in the hospital’s “Three New” projects.

Among these techniques, intra-aortic counterpulsation, interventional treatment of left main coronary artery and chronic occlusive lesions, and interventional treatment of congenital heart disease, among others, filled gaps within the hospital.

Director Li Yuhui also enjoys a high reputation in the profession because of his profound medical knowledge, solid technical skills, and high professional ethics. He has lectured many times at authoritative cardiovascular academic conferences, such as the Southern International Cardiovascular Disease Conference, as well as at other conferences and training courses. He has led or participated in a number of provincial research projects and received 2 second prizes for provincial scientific achievements. He has published more than 20 research papers in core journals.
