The Department of Thyroid and Breast Surgery of Guangdong Second Provincial General Hospital is a comprehensive medical specialty integrating clinical practice, teaching and scientific research. It currently has 6 specialist physicians, including 4 associate chief physicians, 1 attending physician and 1 resident physician, with 2 holding doctoral degrees and 3 holding master's degrees. The department's expert team has rich clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid, parathyroid and breast diseases; relying on the internet hospital, it actively participates in inter-hospital exchanges and remote consultations, and guides physicians in primary-level hospitals in the standardized diagnosis and treatment of thyroid and breast cancer. The breast specialty has for many years actively carried out neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy for early breast cancer, breast-conserving radical surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and stage I/II reconstruction after total mastectomy for breast cancer; on the premise of achieving radical cure of breast cancer, it reduces postoperative complications and improves patients' quality of life, achieving good results. Standardized comprehensive treatment for recurrent and advanced breast cancer (including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgical treatment, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy) has also prolonged the survival of patients with advanced breast cancer and improved their quality of life. Attaching importance to the early diagnosis of breast cancer, the department has carried out ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy of breast masses, mammography-guided wire localization excision of non-palpable breast calcifications, and ductoscopy for nipple discharge, greatly increasing the diagnostic rate of early breast cancer. In addition, it also carries out the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of benign breast diseases, such as minimally invasive rotational excision of benign breast masses, endoscopic minimally invasive excision of breast masses, accessory breast excision, surgical treatment of gynecomastia, and the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic mastitis. The main direction of the thyroid specialty is the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid cancer. Among these, the high-resolution ultrasound examination combined with ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytological diagnosis and gene testing technology carried out by the department has significantly improved the preoperative detection of thyroid microcarcinoma. Our department carried out standardized neck lymph node dissection for differentiated thyroid cancer relatively early, and the surgical quality and long-term efficacy have reached the domestic advanced level. Intraoperative nerve monitoring technology is used to protect the recurrent laryngeal nerve and the superior laryngeal nerve, and negative development technology is used to protect the parathyroid glands, reducing surgery-related complications. In recent years it has carried out endoscopic thyroidectomy and ultrasound-guided minimally invasive ablation treatment for benign thyroid nodules, avoiding the trouble caused to some patients by neck incision scars. Under precise localization by preoperative color Doppler ultrasound, CT and radionuclide scanning, it carries out surgical resection of parathyroid tumors and primary/secondary hyperparathyroidism, with results reaching the domestic advanced level.
