Guoyitang (Traditional Chinese Medicine Department)（天河院区）

Our department is a clinical department centered on maternal-and-child health care and conditioning, providing TCM constitution conditioning for subhealthy people and TCM prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for various maternal and child diseases. It is a national demonstration unit for TCM in maternal-and-child health institutions; a Guangdong demonstration unit for TCM work in general hospitals; one of the first national key TCM gynecology specialties for maternal-and-child health (TCM and integrated Chinese-Western medicine); and a maternal-and-child-health TCM/integrated-medicine training base. It includes TCM pediatrics (children’s respiratory care, digestive care, and growth-and-development conditioning), TCM gynecology (TCM gynecology, postpartum care, reproductive care, and pregnancy-maintenance care), TCM pain medicine and other specialties. TCM pediatrics and gynecology are Guangdong’s first-batch key TCM specialties under the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. Nearly 50 TCM services are offered, including herbal decoctions and medicated diets, acupuncture, moxibustion, thunder-fire moxibustion, acupoint application, herbal fumigation, tuina, manual reduction, constitution identification, TCM directional transdermal drug delivery, Ziwu Liuzhu therapy, and transcutaneous electrical stimulation for drug delivery. Main services cover pediatrics, children’s rehabilitation, gynecology, infertility and preconception care, postpartum rehabilitation, and traditional TCM treatment. The team includes 2 Guangdong famous TCM physicians, 4 chief physicians, 4 associate chief physicians, 5 attending physicians, 6 physicians, 1 supervisor nurse, and 2 TCM therapists. (1) TCM pediatrics: a Guangdong first-batch key specialty under the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, integrating child health care, constitution regulation, and prevention/treatment of common diseases. The Children’s Constitution Identification Form guides surveys and exercise/diet advice, nationally leading. The “fertile soil, seed cultivation, seedling protection” concept is applied through acupoint application, pediatric tuina, four-suture needling, acupuncture, constitution identification, medicated diet and decoctions to improve constitution, resistance and growth. Subspecialties: respiratory disease, digestive disease, and growth-development conditioning. Diseases include respiratory: fever, colds, cough, recurrent respiratory infection, allergic rhinitis/cough, herpangina, acute bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma; digestive: diarrhea, anorexia, infantile malnutrition, constipation, mesenteric lymphadenitis, vomiting; growth: developmental delay, short stature, precocious puberty; others: eczema, jaundice, allergic purpura, hyperhidrosis, enuresis, hand-foot-mouth disease, mumps, chickenpox, ADHD and tic disorder. (2) TCM gynecology: Guangdong first-batch key specialty under the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, transmitting academic and clinical experience through mentorship. It has strengths in menstrual regulation, reproduction and health care; treats menstrual disorders, leukorrhea disorders, vulvar leukoplakia, pregnancy and postpartum diseases, and gynecological pain (pelvic inflammatory disease, endometriosis, dysmenorrhea); diagnoses and treats difficult diseases including PCOS and endometriosis; emphasizes TCM infertility and preconception/eugenic care, with multidisciplinary cooperation for older couples. Subspecialties are gynecological, reproductive, pregnancy-maintenance and postpartum care. Featured conditions: PCOS (constitution-based acupuncture to regulate cycles and promote ovulation/conception); pelvic inflammation and postoperative intestinal adhesions (needling, external medicines and oral herbs to improve the pelvic environment and relieve pain); vulvar leukoplakia (acupuncture and herbal sitz baths); preconception conditioning (constitution, ovulatory disorders, endometrial receptivity, oligospermia/asthenospermia); menstrual irregularity (early/late, scanty/excessive or prolonged menstruation, treated with acupuncture, moxibustion, acupoint application, herbal washing and syndrome-based herbs); pregnancy complications (ABO incompatibility, intrahepatic cholestasis, colds, cough, hyperemesis, constipation and sleep disorders); postpartum diseases (retained lochia, body pain, hyperhidrosis, insufficient milk, milk stasis, hair loss, depression, constipation, urinary retention/leakage, uterine prolapse and pelvic-floor dysfunction). (3) TCM pain medicine uses traditional TCM methods, theories that obstruction or insufficient nourishment causes pain, and that stagnant sinews/misaligned bones congeal qi and blood while aligned bones and supple sinews allow circulation; it combines TCM pattern identification with Western disease diagnosis, prioritizes sinews, uses balance, and seeks qi-blood circulation. Manual reduction, acupuncture, moxibustion and herbal washing treat pain with simplicity, convenience, low cost, proven effect and efficacy. Conditions include cervical/lumbar/limb bone disorders (cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, acute/chronic lumbar sprain, post-lumbar-surgery pain syndrome, sciatica, vertebral compression fracture, osteoarthritis, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, synovitis); headache (migraine, menstrual, cervicogenic, tension, post-traumatic); neuralgia (trigeminal, intercostal, acute herpes zoster, postherpetic neuralgia, regional pain syndrome); and gouty arthritis, intractable hiccups, facial paralysis and restless legs syndrome. (4) Department culture: uphold “inheritance, innovation, exploration and development”; implement “promote TCM culture, care for the whole life cycle and create a high-level discipline”; promote solidarity and harmony; integrate TCM into diagnosis, prevention and health care for women and children; and advance traditional TCM culture.
