Introduction to the Pediatric Respiratory Specialty The Pediatric Respiratory Specialty is an important component of the provincial key pediatric specialty. The pediatric respiratory specialty is registered in the filing information system for National Drug Clinical Trial Institutions, and the department is a national standardized residency training base, a master’s degree training site of Guangzhou Medical University, and a training unit for continuing education of primary-care physicians. It currently has 17 specialty physicians and a strong nursing team, including 1 physician with a doctoral degree and 11 with master’s degrees; 4 chief physicians and 4 deputy chief physicians. The specialty outpatient clinic includes asthma, chronic cough, desensitization, and home nebulization care clinics. Its annual outpatient volume is nearly 60,000 visits, and it is a nationally designated “Standardized Pediatric Asthma Clinic” and “Regional Demonstration Center for Standardized Asthma Clinics”; “subcutaneous injection desensitization” has received international certification from the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency. There are more than 20 inpatient beds, as well as a pediatric bronchoscopy room, pulmonary function room, exhaled nitric oxide testing room, and allergen testing room. More than 1100 patients are discharged annually, more than 40% of the cases treated are difficult and complex cases, nearly 300 bronchoscopy examinations are performed each year, and more than 1000 pulmonary function tests are performed each year.
