Pediatric Thoracic Surgery Clinic(天河院区)
The Department of Pediatric Thoracic Surgery of Guangdong Women and Children's Hospital was founded under the personal care of the hospital's leadership by integrating fetal medicine and neonatal surgery specialties on the basis of our pediatric surgery. The department has 1 chief physician, 2 associate chief physicians and 4 master's degree holders. Director Yu Gang, head of the department, is the discipline leader of our pediatric surgery and the founder of pediatric thoracic surgery; he established the nation's first vertical integrated management system for thoracic diseases covering fetus, neonate and child, pioneered the unique model of prenatal diagnosis combined with early postnatal intervention for fetal lung developmental disorders, and successfully applied the "Internet+" medical model to provide medical help, diagnosis and treatment for patients across the country and around the world. The department possesses advanced pediatric surgery and thoracic surgery equipment and strong professional and technical capabilities. In recent years it has completed nearly 500 pediatric thoracic operations, with infants under 2 months of age accounting for 30%. The department has 40 ward beds, including 12 ICU beds. Supporting facilities include a genetics laboratory, pulmonary function testing room and bronchoscopy room; supporting equipment includes imported conventional-high-frequency ventilators, a nitric oxide machine, multi-parameter multifunctional cardiac monitors, bedside ultrasound machines, color Doppler echocardiography, bedside X-ray machines, pacemakers, infusion pumps and blood gas analyzers, and surgical equipment such as 3 mm and 5 mm thoracoscopes, an energy platform, the ERBE thoracic surgery super workstation, thermal knives and ultrasonic scalpels. Currently over 300 pediatric thoracic operations are performed annually. Our pediatric thoracic surgery now widely performs operations for congenital lung diseases at all ages, including integrated fetal-neonatal management and minimally invasive treatment of congenital diaphragmatic hernia; prenatal diagnosis and evaluation of congenital lung malformations and thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery in the neonatal period are the main features of our department, at a leading national level. Thoracic surgery involves all organs of the pediatric thorax, such as the mediastinum, lung, trachea, pericardium, diaphragm, pleural cavity and chest wall, performing minimally invasive surgery for congenital diseases. Operations currently performed include: minimally invasive assisted lobectomy, segmentectomy (sublobar resection), lung tumor resection, minimally invasive mediastinal tumor resection, bronchogenic cyst resection, pulmonary sequestration resection, transthoracic minimally invasive resection of infradiaphragmatic sequestration, minimally invasive lung biopsy, minimally invasive repair of diaphragmatic hernia, repair of eventration of the diaphragm, minimally invasive repair of hiatal hernia, repair of pectus excavatum, and more. Since 2014 our hospital has been the first in China to perform minimally invasive surgery for congenital lung diseases in infants and young children, including congenital pulmonary cystic adenomatoid malformation, congenital pulmonary sequestration and congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The operations are completed through small minimally invasive incisions on the chest wall, without damaging the sternum, with small trauma, hidden position, good cosmesis and rapid recovery, and can to some extent reduce future psychological impact on the child, with good clinical results. Clinic hours: Monday all day + Wednesday morning — Yu Gang, chief physician; Friday all day — Hong Chun, attending physician. Contact: 020-39151821.
