Pediatric Surgical Oncology Clinic(越秀院区)
The Department of Pediatric Surgical Oncology of Guangdong Women and Children Hospital (Guangdong Children’s Hospital) is established within a Guangdong Provincial Clinical Key Specialty and is one of only two specialized departments in our province dedicated to the comprehensive treatment of benign and malignant solid tumors in children. Referring to the internationally most advanced model of comprehensive solid-tumor treatment platforms, the department provides one-stop, integrated treatment for pediatric tumors, based on the principle of “making professionalism even more professional.” In addition to professional teams in oncologic surgery and medical oncology, subspecialty teams have been established around oncology on public platforms including prenatal diagnosis, genetic analysis, imaging and ultrasound, pathological and molecular diagnosis, and nutrition. On this basis, the MDT (multidisciplinary consultation) model is implemented institutionally, achieving one-stop, integrated treatment for benign and malignant solid tumors in children. The Department of Pediatric Oncology has 12 open beds, including 5 thousand-level laminar-flow beds. It currently has 2 chief physicians, 7 attending physicians, 2 physicians, 6 master’s degree graduate students, and 1 master’s degree graduate supervisor. The center is the chairperson institution of the Pediatric Solid Tumor Professional Committee of the Guangdong Clinical Medical Association, the vice-chairperson and deputy secretariat institution of the Pediatric Oncology Professional Committee of the Guangdong Medical Association, and key department staff serve as youth members of the Pediatric Oncology Professional Committee of the Guangdong Medical Association. Together with the National Clinical Research Center for Child Health and Diseases (Children’s Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine) and the Department of Pediatric Oncology of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, we have jointly established an inter-hospital pediatric solid tumor joint diagnosis and treatment center. Our department provides pediatric oncology patients with comprehensive, systematic, individualized treatment, including meticulous minimally invasive open surgery (for example, skeletalized vascular resection for hepatoblastoma and complex, difficult neuroblastoma); minimally invasive surgery (complete laparoscopic resection of adrenal tumors with significant results, precise laparoscopic resection of ovarian tumors in children, and aesthetically pleasing abdominal minimally invasive wounds without visible scars); individualized tumor diagnosis and individualized chemotherapy and immune-targeted therapy based on genetic testing and drug-target testing; ultrasound-guided precise minimally invasive interventional injection treatment for lymphangiomas and hemangiomas; and comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of neonatal tumors and complex, difficult, rare solid tumors. The benign and malignant tumors and mass diseases treated by the Department of Pediatric Surgical Oncology (scope of diagnosis and treatment) mainly include: soft-tissue tumors: hemangioma, lymphangioma, desmoid-type fibromatosis, fibrosarcoma, neuroblastoma, malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, neurofibromatosis, inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor, lipoblastoma, and peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor; pediatric lymphomas: non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, and abnormal lymph node enlargement in children; germ cell tumors and teratomas: cervical germ cell tumors, thoracic germ cell tumors, abdominal germ cell tumors, sacrococcygeal germ cell tumors, and germ-cell-derived tumors at rare sites; neck tumors and congenital cysts: thyroid adenoma, thyroid adenocarcinoma, parathyroid adenoma, neuroblastoma, and congenital neck cysts; thoracic tumors: mediastinal tumors, lung tumors, and chest-wall tumors; abdominal tumors: hepatobiliary-related tumors, retroperitoneal tumors, pelvic tumors, and intra-abdominal tumors; genitourinary tumors: renal tumors, genitourinary rhabdomyosarcoma, testicular tumors, and adrenal tumors; pediatric gynecologic tumors: vulvar tumors, vaginal tumors, fallopian-tube tumors, ovarian tumors, and uterine and cervical tumors; pediatric skeletal-system tumors: benign tumors, malignant tumors, and soft-tissue cysts.
