The Department of Obstetrics of Guangdong Provincial Women and Children’s Hospital was established in 1946. It has always upheld the hospital motto “Integrity, Virtue, Erudition, and Excellence” and adhered to the service tenet “Children First, Mothers Safe.” Through the efforts and management of several generations of obstetricians, the department has changed with each passing day, with comprehensive development in medical care, services, teaching, and scientific research; the development of its specialty and its overall medical level have consistently ranked among the leading levels nationwide. The Department of Obstetrics is a National Clinical Key Specialty, a National Specialty with Distinctive Features in Maternal and Perinatal Health Care, a National Standardized Residency Training Base (Obstetrics and Gynecology), a National Demonstration Department for Improving Medical Services, and a provincial center for the treatment of critically ill pregnant and postpartum women; it is currently a collaborating institution of the China Association of Eugenics and Prenatal and Postnatal Care and an institution serving as vice chair of the Chinese Association of Eugenics. Our hospital has departments of obstetrics at all four campuses in Panyu, Yuexiu, Tianhe, and Qingyuan. Each campus’s obstetrics department has both an outpatient department and an inpatient department, with complete functions, advanced equipment, highly skilled technology, and attentive service.
The outpatient departments offer multiple online and offline registration methods; via WeChat, patients can access a series of services covering the entire prenatal examination process, including online registration, self-service payment, report inquiries, and inpatient admission procedures; they are equipped with high-end devices such as self-service vital-sign measurement devices, remote fetal heart monitoring devices, and electromagnetic pelvic-floor treatment devices; specialized outpatient clinics, including high-risk pregnancy, nutrition, midwifery, breastfeeding, postpartum rehabilitation, and pelvic-floor treatment clinics, as well as a pelvic-floor treatment center, have been established to fully meet the individualized diagnosis and treatment needs of pregnant and postpartum women; in addition, the Pregnancy School provides guidance throughout the entire process and conducts comprehensive health education.
The inpatient departments have a prenatal area, a delivery center, a baby-friendly area, and integrated delivery rooms (LDRP family wards). The environment is warm and welcoming, and diagnosis and treatment are standardized; the wards are equipped with high-quality, advanced instruments and equipment, including a central fetal heart monitoring system, multifunctional delivery beds, far-infrared neonatal resuscitation tables, electrocardiographic monitors, and labor analgesia devices; 24-hour pain-free delivery, family-accompanied delivery, and doula-accompanied delivery can be provided; in addition, our department also has a MICU monitoring unit for close monitoring and life support for critically ill pregnant and postpartum women.
The Department of Obstetrics has a high-quality, highly skilled medical team and currently has only 300 medical and nursing personnel, of whom those holding intermediate and senior professional titles account for more than 50%, while highly educated personnel with master’s or doctoral degrees account for more than one-fifth. All specialties have advanced in parallel, competing to develop specialized technologies and innovative services, joining hands to build a medical highland, and jointly contributing to maternal and infant health. Over the past three years, annual outpatient visits have reached more than 300,000, and annual deliveries have exceeded 15,000. High-risk pregnancies account for approximately 70%, the rescue success rate for critically ill pregnant and postpartum women is 100%, and both service volume and quality indicators rank among the leading levels among peers within the province.
As a teaching hospital, the Department of Obstetrics has made an enormous contribution to the standardized training of residents and the education and training of midwifery professionals and personnel related to maternal and infant care. The Department of Obstetrics is a National Standardized Residency Training Base and a clinical, nursing, and midwifery internship base for 10 medical schools, including Southern Medical University, Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, and Guangdong Pharmaceutical University.
