Ultrasound

The Department of Ultrasound of the 1st Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was established in 1982 and formally founded in January 1983, making it one of the earliest ultrasound departments established in Chongqing. After more than 40 years of development, the department has grown into an ultrasound diagnosis and treatment center integrating medical care, teaching, and scientific research. It is an authorized institution for awarding doctoral and master’s degrees in imaging medicine and has significant academic influence in Southwest China. As the unit serving as the chairing institution for the 6th and 7th terms of the Ultrasound Professional Committee of the Chongqing Medical Association, the department has strong capabilities in discipline development, talent cultivation, and scientific research innovation. The department has 5 subspecialty groups: superficial organs, vascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and pediatric ultrasound. It has distinctive specialty features and comprehensive diagnostic and treatment technologies. In December 2013, the department was approved as a National Clinical Key Specialty; in 2017, it received the title of “Outstanding Institution for Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound” from the Ultrasound Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association; in April 2019, it was granted qualification as a China Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Training Base by the Ultrasound Physicians Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. The department currently has 109 medical staff, including 11 with senior professional titles (5 at the highest senior level and 6 at the associate senior level), 22 with intermediate professional titles, and personnel with a master’s degree or above account for 91%. It is equipped with 35 high-end ultrasound diagnostic devices from Canon and Hitachi of Japan, GE of the United States, Philips, and other manufacturers (including 29 cart-based color Doppler ultrasound systems and 6 portable color Doppler ultrasound systems). Routine examinations include abdominal, thyroid, breast, vascular, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, and pediatric ultrasound examinations, with an average daily patient volume of 1000-1200 visits (excluding health examinations). In recent years, the department has actively developed new interventional treatment technologies, including contrast-enhanced ultrasound, ultrasound-guided needle biopsy, catheter placement and drainage, stent placement, PTCD, and tumor ablation, providing patients with more precise diagnostic and treatment services. In teaching and scientific research, over the past 5 years the department has received 85 visiting trainees from Yunnan, Sichuan, Qinghai, Guizhou, Shandong, Tibet, Hunan, Xinjiang, and Chongqing, and has undertaken lecture teaching for undergraduate students, graduate students, and international students in the Department of Medical Imaging. It has undertaken 17 scientific research projects of various types, including 5 national-level projects and 9 provincial- and ministerial-level projects; obtained 4 national invention patents and 1 utility model patent; undertaken 2 Chongqing Health Appropriate Technology Promotion projects and 2 university-level innovation team projects; and published more than 100 academic papers, including 30 indexed by SCI. The department has always adhered to the concept of “Precise Diagnosis and Treatment, High-Quality Service,” is committed to providing patients with high-level ultrasound medical services, and actively carries out the cultivation of ultrasound medicine professionals and scientific research innovation, making an important contribution to promoting the development of regional ultrasound medicine.
