Proud to be born at Chongqing Medical University. The Department of Obstetrics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was established in 1957, when the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital affiliated to the former First Shanghai Medical College (now the Shanghai Medical College of Fudan University) was relocated to Chongqing; after decades of development, it has become a national key specialty integrating medical care, teaching and research, and is renowned in Southwest China for its strong technical strength and outstanding service capacity. Relying on the "one hospital, multiple campuses" construction of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the department has obstetrics units at both the Yuanjiagang Campus and the Jinshan Campus; under a strategy of homogeneous management and differentiated development, it has formed a development pattern with distinctive features and complementary functions. Relying on the comprehensive strength of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, the department's delivery volume has ranked first among general hospitals in the city for many consecutive years. The department year-round undertakes the rescue and treatment of pregnant and postpartum women with difficult, critical and severe conditions, striving to guard the last pass of maternal and perinatal safety. Relying on the strong comprehensive clinical rescue capability of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, our department works closely with the intensive care unit, the central intensive care unit of the cardiology department and others to form a perinatal critical care MDT rescue team, making every effort to ensure the safety of mother and child; the level of treatment and rescue of critical and severe obstetric cases ranks among the top in China. Abundant medical talents: the department currently has 225 medical and nursing staff, including 61 doctors, 6 experts at professorial level, 5 experts at associate professorial level, 8 doctoral supervisors and 13 master's supervisors. Strong development momentum: the department has been approved as a National Clinical Key Specialty, the National Higher Education Institution Maternal-Fetal Medicine Innovation and Talent Introduction Base ("111 Program"), the Ministry of Education International Cooperation Joint Laboratory for Reproduction and Development, the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, a National Maternal and Infant Safety Quality Service Unit, a National Characteristic Specialty of Maternal and Perinatal Health Care, a National Training Base for Birth Defect Prevention and Treatment Talents, the Chongqing Sub-center of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Obstetric and Gynecological Diseases, a national-level construction unit for multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment (MDT) of pregnant and postpartum women and for obstetric sub-specialties, the Chongqing Prenatal Screening and Diagnosis Medical Quality Control Center, the Chongqing High-risk Pregnancy Diagnosis and Treatment Center, the Chongqing Prenatal Diagnosis Center, the Chongqing Fetal Medicine Center, an Innovation Team of the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, the Chongqing Obstetric Emergency Nursing Training Base, the Chongqing Midwifery Technology Training Base, the Chongqing Standardized Specialist Nurse Training Base for Midwives, the Ministry of Health Demonstration Ward for Quality Nursing Services, the Clinical Training Base for Specialist Midwives of the China Maternal and Child Health Association, the Southwest China Chongqing Center for Maternal and Perinatal Education of the China Maternal and Child Health Association and the Clinical Training Center for the Sino-French WAFF Maternal and Perinatal Exercise Rehabilitation Project of the China Maternal and Child Health Association, among others. Fruitful disciplinary achievements: in the past five years, team members have published more than 170 SCI papers as corresponding (including co-corresponding) or first (including co-first) authors in high-level SCI journals such as Cell, Lancet and JAMA Pediatrics, with a total impact factor of over 800. In recent years the team has been approved for 80 scientific research projects at provincial and ministerial level or above, with total funding exceeding 39 million yuan. The team has served as chief editor or co-editor of more than 40 national planned textbooks, including the 9th and 10th editions of the nationally unified five-year textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology", the 3rd and 4th editions of the nationally unified eight-year textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology", the unified postgraduate textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology", the National Health Commission standardized residency training textbook "Obstetrics and Gynecology", and the 3rd to 4th editions of the "Obstetrics and Gynecology" textbook for upgrading from junior college to bachelor's degree; it has served as chief editor or associate chief editor of 9 authoritative obstetrics and gynecology monographs; and it has drafted and co-authored 100 national-level guidelines and expert consensuses (drafting 32 and co-authoring 68), setting a benchmark for perinatal medicine education in China. The department has twice won the First Prize of the Chongqing Science and Technology Progress Award, and in 2025 it won the First Prize of the Science and Technology Achievement Award of the Sixth Maternal and Child Health Science and Technology Award.
