Haematology
The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University
Hematology Department Profile
I. Department Overview
The Department of Hematology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was established in 1956 after the Affiliated Hospital of Shanghai First Medical College relocated partially to Chongqing. It is one of the large hematology specialties in China and Southwest China integrating medical care, teaching, and research. It is currently a National Clinical Key Specialty, a Key Specialty of the Chongqing Municipal Education Commission, a National Drug Clinical Trial (GCP) Base, and the Chongqing Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Base; it is a council-member institution of the Chinese Hematology Disease Specialty Alliance and the lead institution of the Bayu Hematology Disease Specialty Alliance. It ranks among the top in Fudan’s regional specialty reputation rankings, and the specialty has considerable influence in Southwest China.
The department currently has 121 open beds, including 15 Class 100 laminar-flow rooms with advanced facilities. It admits approximately 4000 inpatients annually, mainly patients with hematologic malignancies such as leukemia, MDS, lymphoma, and myeloma. Its comprehensive treatment capability has reached an advanced national and international level. It has strong research capacity, with dozens of ongoing national- and municipal-level research projects. Its main research directions include basic and clinical research on hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, the molecular pathogenesis of hematologic malignancies, and the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complex hematologic diseases.
II. Specialty Features
1. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: The department has successfully performed related-donor, unrelated-donor, haploidentical, and other allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantations, as well as autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. More than 1000 hematopoietic stem cell transplantations have been completed in total, and more than 100 are currently performed annually. The transplantation volume and post-transplant cure rate are at an advanced national and international level.

3. Hematology subspecialties: These include hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, leukemia and MDS, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma.
4. Medical professional technologies: In addition to the various hematopoietic stem cell transplantation techniques described above, the department routinely performs plasma exchange, therapeutic component apheresis, and high-dose chemotherapy. It also possesses the most advanced international capabilities in precision diagnosis and treatment of hematologic malignancies, the implementation of which requires comprehensive analysis integrating information from molecular testing, second-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, targeted medications, and other sources. The department also masters biological immunotherapy for tumors, represented by CART cell therapy. For patients with newly diagnosed, relapsed, or refractory hematologic malignancies, individualized high-dose chemotherapy combined with targeted therapy and biological therapy greatly improves long-term survival.
III. Talent Structure
The medical team comprises personnel with senior professional titles, accounting for 50% (12 people), while intermediate- and junior-level titles account for 29% (7 people) and 21% (5 people), respectively.
The department is an authorized institution for conferring doctoral and master’s degrees in internal medicine, with 3 doctoral supervisors and 8 master’s supervisors.
