Endocrinology

The Department of Endocrinology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University hosts the Sichuan–Chongqing Key Laboratory of Metabolic Vascular Diseases and the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Major Metabolic Diseases. It is a national key clinical specialty development project, an accredited clinical drug trial specialty, a Chongqing education commission key discipline, and the city's diabetes center, diabetic foot center and endocrinology quality control center. The department conducts clinical and basic research on endocrine and metabolic disorders, including adrenal disease, diabetes and obesity. Techniques include adrenal venous sampling (AVS), glucose clamp studies and inferior petrosal sinus sampling. It has developed regional centers for diabetes prevention and care and complex endocrine conditions. During the past five years, core members have published over 70 SCI papers as first or corresponding authors, including 11 with impact factors over 10, in journals such as Annals of Internal Medicine, JACC, JAMA Internal Medicine, Hepatology and JAMA Network Open. The department reports 13 national projects, including a key National Natural Science Foundation project and a subproject of a national key research program, two Chongqing outstanding youth grants and three key provincial or ministerial projects. It led China's first guidelines on prevention and treatment of diabetic kidney disease in type 2 diabetes (2019) and first multidisciplinary consensus on adrenal incidentaloma management (2021); research has been cited in Chinese and international guidelines. As a discipline in Chongqing Medical University's Dengfeng program, it has received approximately CNY 15 million annually from the university and hospital since 2023. The hospital reports a leading position in the 2018–2022 five-year China hospital science and technology evaluation measure for endocrinology and metabolism and repeated nominations in Fudan's specialty reputation ranking.
