The discipline currently has 143 medical and technical personnel, including 63 physicians, 62 technicians, and 18 nursing personnel. Professional-title composition: 10 chief physicians, 25 associate chief physicians, 50 personnel with intermediate professional titles, and 58 with junior professional titles; 3 professors, 7 associate professors, and 1 university-appointed associate professor. Educational composition: 14 doctoral degree holders and 41 master’s degree holders.
For medical services, the Department of Radiology currently has general radiography, CT, MRI, and an interventional ward. Its medical facilities are advanced and its equipment is complete. It currently has 10 CT machines, including 2 ultra-high-end GE Revolution CT machines; 6 MRI machines, including 4 3.0 T superconducting MRI machines; and 3 DSA machines. In recent years, the diagnostic scope and methods have continued to expand. The department can not only perform conventional morphological diagnosis using medical imaging, but also complete internationally advanced functional imaging diagnosis, while extensively carrying out intravascular and extravascular interventional treatment. Signature technologies include CT three-dimensional volumetric imaging, small-bowel CT imaging, CT colonoscopic imaging, one-stop CT examination for stroke, and coronary artery imaging in one heartbeat; MR functional brain imaging, MRI T1-Mapping technology, Ideal-IQ quantitative technology, fetal prenatal MRI examination, placenta accreta assessment, ASL technology, MR small-bowel imaging, cardiac MRI examination, and others; peripheral vascular intervention and neurointerventional techniques, vascular thrombus ablation, biliary stent angioplasty, sclerotherapy for hemangiomas, and interventional procedures for lower-extremity arterial atherosclerotic occlusive disease and vascular lesions of the diabetic foot, among others. The annual number of general X-ray examinations exceeds 270,000, the annual number of CT examinations exceeds 370,000, the annual number of MRI examinations exceeds 90,000, and the number of interventional procedures exceeds 3,000.
For teaching, the department mainly undertakes multilevel teaching tasks for undergraduates of Anhui Medical University and master’s and doctoral students in the Imaging Medicine and Nuclear Medicine specialty. The discipline has 3 doctoral supervisors and 10 master’s supervisors. Over the past 5 years, 14 doctoral students and 73 master’s students have graduated; the discipline currently has 11 doctoral students and 36 master’s students enrolled. It undertakes the standardized residency training of Anhui Medical University as well as the teaching of interns. Each month, approximately more than 100 standardized residency trainees and interns rotate through the discipline. In addition, it accepts numerous physicians and technicians specializing in medical imaging for advanced training every year. It has successfully held many academic conferences, including national-level conferences, covering imaging diagnosis, interventional treatment, nursing, scientific research, and many other areas. Through a series of academic conferences, it has provided valuable learning opportunities for radiologists within the discipline and for radiologists from hospitals at all levels throughout the province and the country. Through close cooperation with clinical departments, it has established an integrated diagnostic and treatment approach from clinical practice to imaging, comprehensively improving the level of imaging diagnosis in Anhui Province. It took the lead in establishing the Anhui Provincial Imaging Medical Alliance and uses the Anhui Imaging Cloud platform to provide remote medical imaging diagnosis, fully developing the potential application value of imaging-cloud big data, achieving the interconnection and interoperability of medical imaging information and resource sharing throughout the province, improving the imaging diagnosis and treatment level of primary-level member institutions, and reducing misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis.
For scientific research, it has received 1 first prize and 6 second prizes of the Anhui Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as 2 third prizes of the Anhui Social Sciences Award. The discipline currently has 1 national-level candidate in the New Century Talent Project, 3 academic and technical leaders of Anhui Province, 2 academic and technical leaders of the Anhui Provincial Health Commission (young leading talents), 1 innovation-leading talent under the Anhui Special Support Plan, 1 Anhui teaching newcomer, and 1 outstanding young talent of Anhui universities. One person enjoys a special allowance from the State Council, and 2 people enjoy special allowances from the Anhui Provincial Government. One person received the title of Anhui’s first “Jianghuai Famous Doctor.” Over the past 5 years, more than 260 papers have been published in top domestic and international journals and core journals, including more than 100 SCI papers; the highest impact factor for a single paper reached 36.216 points. The discipline has been awarded 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, 1 provincial key research project, 1 enterprise joint fund, and 1 major project of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It participated in compiling 7 works: 《Diagrammatic Differential Diagnosis in Medical Imaging》, 《Medical Imaging Diagnostics (Fourth Edition)》, 《Medical Imaging Diagnostics (First Edition)》, 《CT Diagnosis and Clinical Practice (Central Nervous System, Head and Neck, and Musculoskeletal System)》, 《CT Diagnosis of the Osteoarticular and Muscular System》, 《CT Diagnosis of the Cardiovascular System》, and 《National Series of Practical Manuals for County-Level Hospitals · Handbook for Radiologists》.
Under the leadership of organizations at all levels, and through the joint efforts of several generations, the Department of Radiology has achieved considerable development in clinical practice, teaching, and scientific research. Its overall strength has firmly remained at the leading level within the province, and some of its work has already entered the ranks of the advanced nationally.
