Cardiology
The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University is a national cardiovascular intervention training institution, a National Chest Pain Center, a national atrial fibrillation center, a construction unit for device-based heart failure therapy, a “Belt and Road” cardiac intervention training base, the Anhui Branch of the Chinese Cardiovascular Disease Alliance Distance Education College, and the chairing institution of the Anhui Provincial Cardiac Rehabilitation Alliance. The Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is currently a project institution for the National Health Commission’s Difficult and Complex Disease Capacity Enhancement Project, a key clinical specialty in Anhui Province, a training base for cardiovascular medicine specialists, a doctoral and master’s training base of Anhui Medical University, and a training base of the US ACC (American College of Cardiology); it is an Anhui Provincial Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Center integrating clinical care, teaching, scientific research, and prevention, and enjoys a good reputation in East China and throughout the country.
The Department currently has 13 chief physicians, 11 associate chief physicians, 5 doctoral supervisors, 10 master’s supervisors, and 21 doctors of medicine.
The Department currently has 213 open beds, including 2 wards for coronary intervention and structural heart disease, 1 ward for cardiac electrophysiology and pacing, 1 ward for heart failure and hypertension, and 1 general ward; it has 4 independent catheterization laboratories and currently operates a specialized cardiovascular medicine outpatient clinic, a chest pain clinic, an atrial fibrillation clinic, a specialized hypertension clinic, and a heart failure clinic. The annual outpatient volume exceeds 160,000 visits, and the annual number of inpatients is 10,000.
The Department’s routine services currently include: percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty by balloon dilation or coronary stent implantation for complex vascular lesions in coronary heart disease, one-stop procedures for complex coronary heart disease, intracoronary rotational atherectomy, coronary intervention guided by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), fractional flow reserve (FFR), or optical coherence tomography (OCT), intra-aortic balloon pump implantation (IABP), drug-coated balloon intervention for coronary in-stent restenosis, congenital heart disease occlusion procedures, three-dimensional-guided radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmias (including radiofrequency ablation treatment for arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, and premature ventricular contractions), zero-radiation radiofrequency ablation of arrhythmias, Marshall ligament alcohol ablation, percutaneous left atrial appendage occlusion, one-stop procedures combining radiofrequency ablation of atrial fibrillation and left atrial appendage occlusion, permanent pacemaker implantation, CRT and CRT-D implantation, ICD implantation and S-ICD implantation, extraction of infected pacemaker leads, percutaneous chemical myocardial ablation of the interventricular septum, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), and interventional treatment of congenital heart disease (atrial septal defect occlusion, ventricular septal defect occlusion, patent ductus arteriosus occlusion, balloon dilation for pulmonary artery stenosis, etc.).
