Neurosurgery
Department Introduction The Department of Neurosurgery of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University is the first clinical specialty department of neurosurgery established in our province. Founded in 1958, it was the first in Anhui Province to provide treatment for neurosurgical diseases such as intracranial tumors, craniocerebral trauma, and spinal cord and spinal column diseases, and has trained a large number of neurosurgeons for other institutions throughout the province. At present, after the unremitting efforts of several generations over more than half a century, the Department of Neurosurgery has developed into a specialty with its own characteristics and academic style and enjoys a high reputation in China. It has been selected for the Fudan edition of the China Hospital Specialty Reputation Ranking for five consecutive years, and our department received a nomination as an Outstanding Department in East China. The Department of Neurosurgery currently has one hospital and five sites (the Main Hospital, Gaoxin Campus, North District and Dongcheng Campus, South District), with a total of 9 wards (including two NICU wards), routinely operates more than 300 beds, has over 200 employees currently in service, currently admits more than 6000 inpatients annually, performs more than 5000 operations annually, treats and rescues more than 3000 patients with difficult and critical illnesses annually, and has carried out more than 10 new operations and technologies over the past three years. Technical Advantages Our department took the lead in the province in establishing a relatively complete neurosurgical subspecialty system, consisting of craniocerebral trauma, neuro-oncology, skull base surgery, cerebrovascular disease, neuroendoscopy, spinal cord and spinal column surgery, and functional neurosurgery. The subspecialty admission rate is nearly 100%, greatly improving the quality of clinical care. With the strong support of the hospital and department leadership, while maintaining its traditional advantage in skull base tumor surgery, the department has achieved major breakthroughs in multiple fields. Functional neurosurgery routinely uses stereotactic and neuromodulation technologies to treat various movement disorders, neuropsychiatric diseases, and functional neurological diseases, the spinal cord and spinal column subspecialty routinely performs surgery for basilar invagination with atlantal dislocation, and the cerebrovascular disease subspecialty has made substantial progress in treating refractory wide-neck aneurysms. Both the surgical volume and surgical outcomes are at a leading level in the province. Department Honors The department is currently a member institution of the Neurosurgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, a standing committee member institution of the Neurosurgeons Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the chairing institution of the Neurosurgery Branch of the Anhui Medical Association, and the leading institution of the Anhui Neurosurgery Alliance (specialty medical consortium), and is the Anhui Provincial Center for neurosurgical clinical care, medical services, teaching, and research.
